Liberty County Mother Indicted
in Alleged Attempted
Drowning of Three Children
A Liberty County grand jury has indicted Jessica Quintana, 39, a Dayton mother accused of attempting to kill her three children by drugging them and trying to drown them during a September incident investigators described as an attempted murder-suicide.
Court records show Quintana faces three first-degree felony charges, including two counts of injury to a child causing serious bodily injury and one count of attempting to commit aggravated assault with serious bodily injury. Her bond was previously set at $3 million, with $1 million assigned to each charge.
Deputies with the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office responded to a rural property in the 9100 block of FM 1008 on September 29, 2025, after receiving a report of a possible drowning. Authorities said Quintana and her three children — ages 15, 11, and 6 — were found near a pond. One child was unresponsive and taken to a hospital. All three children survived.
Investigators allege Quintana gave the children a mixture of NyQuil and alcohol before leading them toward the water. Court documents state her teenage daughter described a “Plan A” to leave the home and a “Plan B” to enter the water together.
Quintana was arrested October 24 after being released from a Houston hospital. The children are now staying with maternal grandparents as the case moves forward in court.
