Son Confesses to Setting Fire That
Killed Father in Baytown Home
A 40-year-old Baytown man has been charged with murder after authorities say he intentionally set fire to his home, resulting in the death of his father inside.
The incident happened Monday, July 21st, around 4 p.m., when Baytown Fire and EMS responded to a house fire on the 1900 block of Chilton Dr. Firefighters found the home fully engulfed in flames and later discovered the body of 73-year-old Floyd Hadley in the bathtub. No other injuries were reported.
According to court documents, investigators quickly uncovered surveillance footage showing a man walking away from the side of the home moments before smoke began pouring from the back. The vehicle seen in the footage was traced to Floyd’s son, Clinton Hadley.
Baytown detectives used NCIC database records and Flock Safety license plate technology to issue a BOLO (Be On the Lookout). That same day, Clinton was arrested in Slidell, Louisiana, after allegedly threatening to set a business on fire if he didn’t receive gas money. Deputies said he initially provided a false name.
Once informed that his father had died in the fire, Clinton denied involvement. However, court records say he later admitted to Louisiana deputies that he deliberately set fire to the furniture in his room before leaving the house. He allegedly told investigators he wanted to burn the house down and “get away from his family.”
The documents also mention a history of mental health concerns involving Clinton. The night before the fire, an aunt reportedly called Baytown police requesting a welfare check. She claimed Clinton, who she said was schizophrenic, had been talking about burning the house down.
Baytown Police Chief John Stringer credited the swift inter-agency response and use of investigative technology for the quick arrest. “Because of that coordination, another dangerous individual is now off our streets,” he said.
Clinton Hadley remains in custody in Louisiana as authorities work to extradite him back to Texas.

New Industrial Project Near Baytown:
EGF Energy Breaks Ground at Gulf Inland
Houston-based EGF Energy Partners LLC has purchased a 13.1-acre site at Gulf Inland Logistics Park in Liberty County-about 25 miles north of Baytown—where it will build a rail-connected terminal and manufacturing facility for base oils and lubricants.
The expansion is noteworthy for the greater Baytown area as Gulf Inland Logistics Park continues to attract industrial investment and job growth to the region. The development offers direct access to both Union Pacific and BNSF rail lines, as well as proximity to the Port of Houston and major transportation routes like I-10 and Highway 146.
EGF, a family- and minority-owned business with more than 20 years of experience, produces premium lubricants for automotive, industrial, and drilling markets. The new facility will allow the company to store, blend, and transload a wide range of lubricant products.
The first phase, expected to be up and running within a year, will include:
A 20,000-square-foot warehouse
Over 400,000 gallons of bulk tank storage
Truck scales and multiple loading racks
Once complete, the full project will span 60,000 square feet and feature capacity for 800,000 gallons of product.
EGF President Felix Moreno Jr. says the location is key to streamlining logistics and better connecting their existing Houston operations. “This site gives us flexibility and efficiency. We’re excited to grow and better serve our customers,” he said.
The project reflects growing momentum at Gulf Inland Logistics Park, where Phase 1 is nearly sold out, and Phase 2 is now underway. With over 2,000 railcar storage spaces planned by 2026 and a workforce of more than 2 million people within commuting distance, the park is rapidly becoming a major industrial hub for Southeast Texas—something Baytown-area businesses and suppliers are likely to benefit from.
