Weekend Traffic Alert:
Westbound I-10 Closure Planned
If you're planning to head toward Houston this weekend, be prepared for a major traffic disruption.
TxDOT will close all westbound lanes of Interstate 10 between Freeport Street and Uvalde Road this weekend so crews can make roadway repairs. Drivers traveling from Baytown and surrounding communities should expect delays and are encouraged to allow extra travel time or consider an alternate route.
The closure is expected to begin Friday night and remain in place through early Monday morning [5 am], weather permitting. During the closure, westbound traffic will be detoured onto the frontage road before re-entering I-10 beyond the work zone.
The affected stretch is a busy route for many Baytown-area residents heading into Houston for work, shopping, dining, sporting events, or weekend activities. If you have plans in the city, it's a good idea to factor in extra travel time before you hit the road.

Man Shot While Grilling at Baytown Park;
Teen Suspects Sought
Baytown police are searching for two teenage suspects after a man was shot Tuesday night while grilling at a local park.
According to preliminary information, the shooting happened around 10 p.m. at a park in the 1500 block of Nolan Road. Investigators say the victim, a man in his late 60s, was barbecuing when an argument with two teenagers escalated. During the confrontation, the man was shot in the abdomen.
The victim was treated at the scene before being flown by Life Flight to a Houston-area hospital. His current condition has not been released. The two suspects reportedly fled the area before officers arrived.
The investigation remains active, and police have not released descriptions of the suspects or additional details about what led to the shooting. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Baytown Police Department.

Follow-Up: Escaped Liberty County
Inmate Found in Washington
Nearly three weeks after escaping from custody at a Kingwood hospital, a Liberty County inmate has been captured in the Seattle, Washington, area, bringing a multi-state manhunt to an end.
The arrest comes after the inmate, Yorlan Rafael Reyes, escaped from the custody of the Liberty County Sheriff's Office on July 18th while receiving medical treatment. Authorities said members of the U.S. Marshals Service located and arrested Reyes Tuesday afternoon following weeks of investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies.
Investigators say Reyes traveled through Texas before eventually making his way to Washington state. During the search, authorities also alleged that he sent threatening messages to several women in Texas, which could result in additional criminal charges.
This story follows our July 21st report on Reyes' escape from a Kingwood hospital. As part of that incident, the Liberty County correctional officer responsible for supervising Reyes was later terminated after an internal investigation found violations of jail supervision procedures, though officials said no criminal wrongdoing was involved.
Below are two videos for readers who would like additional information—one covering the capture and another explaining the circumstances that led to the jailer's dismissal.
