As families prepare for the new school year, Texas First Bank is inviting the community to help make sure local students have the supplies they need to start the year with confidence.

Through August 21st, the bank's Operation Give Back(Packs) school supply drive is collecting donations of new school supplies at any Texas First Banking Center.

If you're already shopping for your own family's back-to-school needs, consider adding a few extra items to your cart. Even a small donation can help students head into the classroom prepared and ready to learn.

Requested items include backpacks, notebooks, binders, folders, pencils, pens, erasers, glue, crayons, and other everyday classroom essentials. Any new school supplies that can help a student succeed are welcome.

Community-wide school supply drives like this help ease the financial burden on families while ensuring children have the tools they need for a successful school year. Every donated notebook, backpack, or box of crayons is one more way neighbors can support local students.

Donations can be dropped off at any Texas First Banking Center now through August 21st.

Authorities are continuing to search for a Liberty County jail inmate who escaped from custody while receiving medical treatment at HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood early Saturday morning.

Investigators say 31-year-old Yorlan Reyes fled from a correctional officer inside the hospital's emergency room around 5:30 a.m. Officials are still trying to determine exactly how the escape happened and where Reyes went after leaving the hospital.

Multiple law enforcement agencies are assisting in the search. Reyes was last seen wearing an orange jail jumpsuit and orange jail-issued shoes.

Anyone who sees Reyes is urged not to approach him. Instead, call 911 immediately with any information that could help authorities locate him.

Baytown is encouraging residents to help create a more bird-friendly community by supporting efforts to manage invasive plants and protect local habitats.

According to the City of Baytown's Parks, Recreation, Nature, and Tourism Department, invasive plants can crowd out native species, reducing the food and shelter that birds and other wildlife depend on. Replacing invasive plants with native vegetation helps restore a healthier balance for local ecosystems.

The city's Bird-Friendly Community initiative aims to create a place where residents, visitors, and nature can thrive together. In addition to benefiting birds, healthier natural habitats can improve local ecosystems, support pollinators, and enhance the overall quality of life for the community.
