Happy Thursday! 🍔 Today is National Hamburger Day, which honestly feels like a pretty perfect excuse to treat yourself to lunch or dinner somewhere around town. Between backyard cookouts, drive-thru favorites, and local burger spots, it definitely sounds like summer is starting to settle in around the Gulf Coast.

Heavy Haul Transport Expected to Cause Delays Along Highway 330 and Baker Road
Baytown drivers should expect delays along Highway 330 and Baker Road beginning tonight, Thursday, May 28th, due to heavy haul transport operations associated with ExxonMobil.
According to the Baytown Police Department, the oversized transports will take place after 7 p.m. with escort vehicles and traffic control personnel assisting along the route. Drivers are encouraged to use caution near escort vehicles and consider alternate routes when possible.
The transport activity is expected to continue through June 6th.
Baytown Continues Citywide
Water Meter Modernization Effort
The City of Baytown is preparing to begin the next phase of its citywide residential water meter replacement project following completion of the first phase earlier this year.
According to the city, crews have already replaced about 5,000 residential meters and are expected to replace an additional 13,000 meters during the next phase of the project. Work is expected to begin between mid-July and early August and continue over the next 12 to 18 months.
City officials said the upgraded meters are designed to improve long-term reliability and accuracy while also supporting a future customer portal that will allow residents to monitor water usage and receive usage alerts. There is no cost to homeowners for the replacement work.
Mont Belvieu Man Sentenced to
10 Years in Federal Ponzi Scheme Case
A Mont Belvieu man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for operating what prosecutors described as a Ponzi-style investment scheme that defrauded multiple victims out of millions of dollars.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas, 41-year-old Carl Channing Spence was sentenced this week after previously pleading guilty to wire fraud connected to the scheme. Prosecutors said the fraud involved misleading investors about stock market investments while using money from newer investors to pay earlier victims and cover personal expenses.
Federal officials said the scheme impacted at least 19 known victims. During sentencing, the court also heard victim impact statements detailing the financial and personal hardships caused by the fraud. Spence was ordered to serve 120 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release.
We previously reported on the case earlier this year when Spence entered his guilty plea.
