Someone just spent $236,000,000 on a painting. Here’s why it matters for your wallet.

Late last year, a Klimt sold for the highest price ever paid for modern art at auction.

An outlier sure, but it wasn't a fluke. U.S. auction sales grew 23.1% in 2025. The $1-5mm segment even grew 40.8% YoY.

Meanwhile, Apollo’s chief economist Torsten Slock said to expect ‘zero in return in the S&P 500 over the coming decade.’

Each environment is unique, but after dot-com, post war and contemporary art grew about 24% annually for a decade. After 2008, about 11% for 12 years.

It’s also had near-zero correlation with the S&P 500 since ‘95.*

Now, Masterworks lets you invest in shares of artworks featuring legends like Banksy, Basquiat, and Picasso.

  • $1.3 billion invested across over 500 artworks.

  • 28 sales to date.

  • Net annualized returns on sold works held 12 months+ like 14.6%, 17.6%, and 17.8%.

Major Oil Companies Still Seeing Strong Results Despite Market Challenges

Even with some market challenges and lower profits compared to last year, energy giants ExxonMobil and Chevron continue reporting multi-billion-dollar earnings, highlighting the ongoing importance of the energy industry both nationally and here along the Gulf Coast.

According to recent financial reports, both companies topped Wall Street expectations during the first quarter of 2026, despite volatility in global energy markets.

For the Baytown area, where thousands of jobs and businesses are tied directly or indirectly to the energy sector, the reports are another reminder of how closely the local economy is connected to the oil, gas, and chemical industries. Baytown is home to one of ExxonMobil’s largest integrated refinery and chemical complexes, while Chevron also maintains a major presence in the region.

Industry analysts say energy demand and infrastructure investment continue to drive activity across the Gulf Coast, helping support manufacturing, contractors, shipping, and many other local businesses connected to the industry.

Golden Corral Confirms Continued
Expansion Plans Including Baytown

Last year, we told readers that Golden Corral was planning a return to Baytown — and it appears those plans are still moving forward.

According to a new company press release about Golden Corral’s nationwide expansion efforts, the planned Baytown restaurant remains part of the company’s future growth plans and is currently listed in the pre-construction phase.

The buffet-style restaurant chain closed its previous Baytown location during the COVID era and never reopened, leaving many local fans wondering if the restaurant would ever return to the area.

While no opening date has been announced yet, the latest update is a positive sign that the Baytown project is still active as the company continues expanding into new markets across the country.

For many longtime customers, it’s welcome news that Golden Corral still appears to be on the way back to Baytown.

Mont Belvieu PD Urges Riders
to Stay Safe on E-Bikes and Scooters

E-bikes and electric scooters are becoming more common across the area, but police say safety remains a growing concern—especially as more riders take to busy streets and intersections.

The Mont Belvieu Police Department recently shared a video reminding riders and drivers to stay alert and understand the risks that can come with these fast-growing modes of transportation. The department’s message focuses on safe riding habits, awareness, and helping prevent serious accidents before they happen.

Fleetwood Mask Bringing Classic
Fleetwood Mac Sound to Baytown

Fans of classic rock and Fleetwood Mac will have a chance to relive some of the band’s biggest hits later this month when Fleetwood Mask performs at Lee College on Saturday, May 23rd.

Known for recreating the sound, look, and live concert experience of Fleetwood Mac, Fleetwood Mask has built a strong following across the country. The tribute group is also notable for being endorsed by Fleetwood Mac founding member Mick Fleetwood, who praised the band for keeping the music “in good hands.”

Concertgoers can expect many of Fleetwood Mac’s best-known songs along with fan favorites spanning multiple eras of the legendary band’s career. The group is known for paying close attention to detail, from the instruments and stage setup to the iconic concert styles made famous over the years.

The performance marks the final concert of the season and is expected to draw fans from across the area looking for a night of classic hits and nostalgia.
