Baytown Police Charge 20-Year-Old
in January Homicide
A 20-year-old Baytown man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with a deadly apartment shooting, according to the Baytown Police Department.
Police said Zachary Eleby is charged in the death of 32-year-old Jerome Harris of Louisiana. Officers responded around 10 p.m. on January 31st to an apartment complex in the 1700 block of James Bowie Drive after receiving a call about an unresponsive man.
When officers arrived, paramedics with the Baytown Fire Department were performing life-saving measures on Harris. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Investigators determined he died from a gunshot wound.
Chief of Police John Stringer commended detectives for their work, stating, “I am extremely proud of our detectives for their relentless dedication to this investigation. Their ability to combine technology with information provided by our community played a critical role in bringing this case forward. This arrest reflects the importance of teamwork and the trust between our department and the community we serve.”
Authorities have not released a possible motive.
All persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
