Raw Sewage Issues Raise Health and Environmental Concerns
Across the Greater Houston area, residents in several communities — including parts of Baytown — have been dealing with serious sewage problems. According to Bayou City Waterkeepers, neighborhoods such as Denver Harbor, Sunnyside, and Southpark have reported hundreds of raw sewage spills on private property, with more than 1,100 incidents documented in 2024. Many of these spills have been linked to aging infrastructure or failing septic systems.
In one Baytown case, investigators discovered a resident had diverted sewage runoff into a roadside ditch after a septic tank filled up, creating an unpleasant odor and visible contamination. City officials say the problem has since been corrected, but it highlights how difficult and costly wastewater issues can become for homeowners. Baytown does offer assistance programs for eligible residents dealing with septic or sewer challenges, with more information available on the city’s website.
Environmental advocates have also raised concerns that contaminated runoff could impact nearby waterways, including Cedar Bayou, which is already listed by the state as impaired due to bacteria and chemical pollutants.

He was quite the busy bee last week during training and we mean that literally. 🐝

What is the main reason leaves change color in the fall? |

Monday’s Quiz: During fall migration, what major natural feature do many Texas birds use as a navigation guide on their journey south?
Answer: C) The Gulf of Mexico coastline
Millions of birds follow the Gulf Coast each fall because the shoreline provides both a visible route and plentiful rest stops. Texas is one of the most important migratory corridors in North America.
