🍪 Good Morning & Happy Thursday!

October has arrived, and apparently it brought snacks! Today is National Homemade Cookies Day, which sounds like a perfectly reasonable excuse to warm up the oven — or find someone who already did. Because let's face it, homemade cookies are even better when somebody else does the baking. 🍪

And here's a little October 1st nostalgia: Walt Disney World opened its gates in Florida on this day in 1971. That means today marks 55 years since visitors first entered the Magic Kingdom in Orlando. 🏰

So whether your idea of a magical Thursday involves a trip to Disney World or simply finding a warm chocolate chip cookie before someone else eats it, we hope October is off to a great start.

Grab your coffee (and maybe a cookie), and let's see what's happening around our area today. 💙

Traffic Alert: Hunt Road
Closure Near Garth Road

Drivers should expect traffic changes near Hunt Road and Garth Road as part of the ongoing Garth Road project.

The eastbound lanes of Hunt Road approaching Garth Road will be closed, along with the westbound entrance to Hunt Road from Garth Road.

Drivers should plan for extra travel time and use alternate routes when possible.

Anahuac ISD Adding School
Bus Cameras After Close Call

Anahuac ISD is moving forward with adding cameras to its school buses after a young student was nearly struck by a vehicle while getting off a bus.

The incident involved a driver passing a stopped school bus as a student was preparing to cross the roadway. The student's mother subsequently urged the district to install cameras that could help identify drivers who illegally pass stopped buses.

At Monday night's meeting, the Anahuac ISD Board approved the purchase of a new school bus and plans to equip district buses with camera systems. The cameras could provide video evidence to help identify vehicles that illegally pass stopped school buses.
