Good Wednesday morning! 🥑 Today gives us an interesting combination to celebrate — National Guacamole Day and National Play-Doh Day!

Whether you're scooping up a bowl of fresh guacamole with tortilla chips or remembering the colorful creations you made with Play-Doh as a kid, there's a little something for everyone today.

And here's a fun fact: Play-Doh didn't start out as a toy at all. It was originally developed as a wallpaper cleaner before eventually finding its way into classrooms and toy boxes.

So grab the chips, leave the Play-Doh off the menu 😄, and have a wonderful Wednesday!

Discolored Water Reported in
La Porte, Deer Park and Nearby Areas

Residents in La Porte, Deer Park and several nearby communities have reported yellow or green discoloration in their tap water, but officials say the water remains safe to drink.

The discoloration has been linked to recent heavy rainfall in the Trinity River Basin, which caused increased turbidity in the raw water supply. Elevated levels of naturally occurring minerals can give treated water a yellow or green appearance, particularly when seen in larger quantities, such as in a bathtub.

Officials say water samples continue to meet or exceed regulatory standards and the discoloration is expected to be temporary.

Residents who have concerns about their water can contact their local public works or water department.

Deer Park Facility Launches
First-of-Its-Kind
Mercury Disposal Solution

A Deer Park facility is now offering what VLS Environmental Solutions says is the nation's first commercial permanent disposal solution for elemental mercury.

The company's new patent-pending process will operate at its VLS Texas Molecular hazardous waste facility in Deer Park. VLS says the facility has received the necessary state and federal permits from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and the Environmental Protection Agency to accept and permanently dispose of elemental mercury.

The new process provides an alternative to long-term storage of elemental mercury, which has presented a challenge for industries and government agencies since federal restrictions on exporting the material took effect in 2013.

The Texas Molecular facility has operated in Deer Park since 1981 and handles hazardous industrial waste from across the country.
