What Should La Porte Look
Like in the Future?
Residents Invited to Weigh In
How could La Porte become more walkable, connected and inviting while still keeping the character that makes it La Porte?
Residents will have an opportunity to weigh in during the La Porte Livable Centers Public Open House on Wednesday, September 16th, from 5:30–7:30 p.m. at the City Council Chamber, 604 W. Fairmont Parkway.
The City of La Porte is working with the Houston-Galveston Area Council on a long-range study covering approximately two square miles of the city's central area, including Main Street, Broadway and Sylvan Beach.
The study is looking at everything from safer walking and biking routes and better connections between neighborhoods and destinations to redevelopment opportunities, transportation and ways to strengthen the connection between downtown and Sylvan Beach.
Most importantly, residents are being asked what they would like to see — and those who can't attend the open house can still share their ideas through an online community survey.
📅 Wednesday, September 16 | 5:30–7:30 p.m.
📍 La Porte City Council Chamber, 604 W. Fairmont Parkway
👉 Can't make the meeting? Share your ideas in the online survey.
WC Tractor’s Dayton Location
Gets New Owner, New Name
A familiar Dayton business has changed hands.
WC Tractor has sold its New Holland dealerships in Dayton, Brenham and Sealy to the ownership group behind Splintered Oak Equipment. The transaction closed earlier this year, and the dealerships will remain at their current locations while operating under the Splintered Oak Equipment name.
The Dayton dealership, located at 1105 Highway 146 South, will continue offering New Holland equipment, parts and service. Splintered Oak lists the Dayton location as serving customers throughout the surrounding area, including Liberty, Crosby, Baytown and Cleveland, making the ownership change relevant to customers well beyond Dayton.
WC Tractor said the sale allows the company to focus on growing its Kubota dealership operations across Texas.

Take a Peek Inside: This 15-Acre La Porte Property Is Anything but Ordinary
This week's peek takes us to La Porte, where a private gate opens to something you might not expect to find so close to the city — a 15-acre country estate currently set up as a premier equestrian facility.
Listed at $2,499,900, the property at 10431 N P St. includes a 2,560-square-foot, three-bedroom home, but it's what surrounds the house that really makes this one interesting.
The property features multiple barns and covered facilities, a covered riding arena, office space with living quarters and dual ponds — including a dedicated equine therapy pond. There's also a heated swimming pool and spa for the humans.
Currently designed around horses, the property also offers possibilities for livestock, specialty farming, training facilities and other agricultural uses. The listing even notes potential uses ranging from a private country retreat or family compound to an event or wedding venue, subject to approvals.
It's an unusual combination — 15 acres, extensive equestrian facilities and even a pond devoted to horse therapy, all tucked away in La Porte.
