Baytown Monitoring Gulf System as
Heavy Rain, Flooding Possible
The Baytown Emergency Operations Center is monitoring a tropical system in the Gulf that could bring heavy rainfall and potentially strong winds to the area today.
According to information shared by the city, the National Hurricane Center is forecasting a 70% chance of development, with the system potentially making landfall along the Southeast Texas coast.
Current precipitation models indicate 3 to 6 inches of rain could fall in Baytown, with isolated areas possibly receiving higher amounts. Heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding in some locations.
The system is not currently expected to be a significant wind event for most of the region. However, because of Baytown’s proximity to the coast, officials say there is a 35% chance of tropical-force winds of 40–55 mph.
Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items, clear debris from gutters and drainage areas, and make sure emergency supplies are ready.
Forecasts can change as tropical systems develop, so residents should continue monitoring updates from local officials and the National Weather Service.

Multiple Area School Districts,
Lee College Closed Today
Several area school districts and Lee College have canceled classes today, Tuesday, September 1st, due to expected weather conditions.
As of Monday evening, closures had been announced by Goose Creek CISD, Anahuac ISD, Crosby ISD, Dayton ISD, Liberty ISD and La Porte ISD. Lee College has also closed all campuses and canceled classes for today [Tuesday].
Deer Park ISD plans to hold classes on its regular schedule Tuesday. The district said parents may choose to keep their children home if they have concerns about their child's safety.
Barbers Hill ISD had not announced a Tuesday closure as of Monday evening.
With weather conditions and forecasts subject to change, families are encouraged to check their school or college's official communication channels this morning for the latest information and any updates regarding Wednesday schedules.
