Local Mom Turns Cancer Battle
Into a Story of Hope and Strength
A local mother is inspiring others after overcoming ovarian cancer and rebuilding her strength following years of treatment.
In 2020, Alana Gill, a wife and mother of two, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. After undergoing multiple surgeries and chemotherapy, she eventually entered remission. While the cancer was gone, the physical and emotional toll of treatment left her searching for a way to regain her strength and confidence.
Determined to move forward, Gill began training at D1 Training in Mont Belvieu, where she focused on rebuilding both her body and her outlook on life. Today, she hopes her story encourages others who have faced serious illness to remember that recovery doesn't end when treatment is over.
Gill says she wants other cancer survivors to know they are stronger than they realize and that healing is possible, even after life's toughest challenges.

Expect Delays: SH 146 Northbound Feeder Road in La Porte Closing for Concrete Repairs
Drivers in the La Porte area should plan for traffic delays as TxDOT has begun major repairs on the northbound SH 146 feeder road between Fairmont Parkway and Spencer Highway.
The feeder road was scheduled to close completely yesterday [Wed., July 22nd], while construction crews remove damaged pavement, prepare the roadway, install reinforcing steel, and pour new concrete. The road is expected to reopen by Sunday, July 26th at 5pm weather permitting.
The La Porte Police Department is working with TxDOT to help keep traffic moving as smoothly as possible. Additional construction signage will be in place, and officers will assist with traffic control throughout the closure.
Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes, allow extra travel time, and use caution in the work zone.
Officials note that the construction schedule could change due to weather or other unforeseen conditions.

La Porte EMS Opens Registration
for Popular Citizens Academy
Have you ever wondered what it's really like to be a paramedic or what happens behind the scenes when someone calls 911 for a medical emergency? La Porte EMS is giving area residents the chance to find out.
Registration is now open for the 2026 La Porte EMS Citizens Academy, a six-week program designed to give participants an inside look at emergency medical services through hands-on learning and real-world experiences.
The academy covers topics including the history of La Porte EMS, patient care, CPR and First Aid training, a tour of EMS headquarters, and one of the program's most popular features—a ride-along with paramedics as an observer.
Classes will be held on Wednesdays from September 2 through October 7, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Participants must be 18 years of age or older, and registration forms must be submitted by August 19.
Registration forms are available at La Porte EMS Headquarters, located at 10428 Spencer Highway. For more information, call 281-471-9244.
