It seems like summer vacation just started, but somehow the first day of school is already right around the corner. While many students would gladly vote for a few more weeks of sleeping in and enjoying summer break, plenty of parents may be quietly celebrating the return of a regular routine.

Local school districts will begin welcoming students back over the next couple of weeks. Liberty ISD starts first on August 3rd, followed by Crosby ISD on August 5th and Anahuac ISD on August 7th.

On Wednesday, August 12th, classes begin for Dayton ISD, Goose Creek CISD, Barbers Hill ISD, and Deer Park ISD. La Porte ISD students return the following day on Thursday, August 13th.

Whether your family is excited, nervous, or still trying to squeeze every last drop out of summer, the countdown to a new school year is officially on.

As the first day of school draws closer, communities across the Baytown area are coming together to help students start the new school year prepared and confident.

From free backpacks and school supplies to health services, haircuts, community resources, and family activities, these events are designed to ease the financial burden many families face while helping every child begin the school year with the tools they need to succeed.

For many students, something as simple as a new backpack or fresh school supplies can provide a sense of confidence and dignity on the first day of class. Thanks to the generosity of local businesses, nonprofits, volunteers, churches, and community organizations, thousands of local children will receive much-needed support before school begins.

Below is a list of upcoming back-to-school events taking place throughout our area.

City of Baytown & Communities In Schools Back-to-School Fair

⏰ Time: 8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. (or while supplies last)
📍 Location: Baytown Community Center, 2407 Market St., Baytown

Parents must provide proof of GCCISD enrollment for each student using the GCCISD Parent Portal at check-in.
The event is sponsored entirely by local businesses and organizations.

Judge Lucia Bates Back-to-School Backpack & Supply Giveaway

East Harris County Empowerment Council – Day of Dignity

📅 Date: Sat., Aug. 1st
⏰ Time: 8:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
📍 Location: Crosby High School, 333 Red Summit Dr., Crosby

What to Expect
600 backpacks
600 school supply kits
800 hygiene kits
150 feminine care packages

The event is designed to help Crosby ISD students and their families prepare for a successful new school year while connecting them with valuable community resources.

As families prepare for the new school year, Texas First Bank is inviting the community to help make sure local students have the supplies they need to start the year with confidence.

Through August 21st, the bank's Operation Give Back(Packs) school supply drive is collecting donations of new school supplies at any Texas First Banking Center.

If you're already shopping for your own family's back-to-school needs, consider adding a few extra items to your cart. Even a small donation can help students head into the classroom prepared and ready to learn.

Requested items include backpacks, notebooks, binders, folders, pencils, pens, erasers, glue, crayons, and other everyday classroom essentials. Any new school supplies that can help a student succeed are welcome.

Community-wide school supply drives like this help ease the financial burden on families while ensuring children have the tools they need for a successful school year. Every donated notebook, backpack, or box of crayons is one more way neighbors can support local students.

Donations can be dropped off at any Texas First Banking Center now through August 21st.
