Ship Channel Bridge Nightly
Lane Closures Begin

Drivers using the northbound Sam Houston Tollway Ship Channel Bridge should plan for overnight delays through July 18th. Beginning each night at 10 p.m. and continuing until 8 a.m., the right northbound lane and the northbound SH 225 exit ramp will be closed while crews perform scheduled roadway maintenance.

If you normally exit at SH 225, you'll need to continue to Fairmont Parkway, Spencer Highway, or the Pasadena/Red Bluff exit to reach your destination. The northbound Red Bluff entrance ramp will remain open, allowing traffic to continue onto the bridge during the work.

Walmart Plans $1.3 Million Remodel of Baytown Supercenter

The Walmart Supercenter at 4900 Garth Road is scheduled for a $1.3 million interior and exterior renovation. The remodel will update nearly 9,800 square feet within the existing 224,000-square-foot store.

Construction is currently scheduled to begin in January, 2027, with work expected to be completed by April, 2027.

Baytown Police Mounted Patrol:
More Than Just Horses

The Baytown Police Department's Mounted Patrol Unit is much more than a group of officers on horseback—it's a unique team that helps strengthen community relationships while supporting public safety across the city. Mounted officers provide a highly visible presence at festivals, parades, community events, and in parks and other open areas, where their elevated view can help them observe situations and assist with searches.

One of the unit's biggest strengths is its ability to connect with the public. Horses naturally attract people of all ages, giving officers an opportunity to answer questions, meet residents, and build positive relationships in a relaxed setting. The unit currently includes Rocket, Brownie, Ranger, Rex, and Bosco—each with a distinct personality and an important role to play. From retired racehorses and former ranch horses to gentle giants in training, these remarkable partners help make the Mounted Patrol Unit both effective and approachable.

The Baytown Police Department encourages residents to stop and say hello if they see the mounted officers out in the community. While the horses certainly turn heads, they also serve an important purpose by helping officers engage with the public and enhance safety throughout Baytown.
