San Jacinto Marketplace
Continues to Take Shape
Construction continues to move forward at San Jacinto Marketplace, with several major projects now approaching the halfway mark.
During the May 28th Baytown City Council meeting, District 3 Councilman Ken Griffith reported that Sam's Club is well underway. Work is also progressing on the bakery, café, pharmacy, optical center, and fuel station, with those areas nearing 50% completion.
Griffith said the main retail building, which is expected to house HomeGoods, Barnes & Noble, Burlington, Five Below, Ross, and Harvey's, is also nearly halfway complete.
In addition, construction is underway on the northernmost building, which will include Dick's Sporting Goods and EOS Fitness, with that structure also approaching the halfway point.

Suspect Identified in Baytown
Officer-Involved Shooting
Baytown Police have released additional details about Friday night's officer-involved shooting in the 300 block of East Texas Avenue.
According to Police Chief John Stringer, officers responded to reports of gunfire at a residence shortly before 11 p.m. Investigators say officers encountered an armed suspect who allegedly fired at them. During the encounter, an officer discharged a firearm. No officers were injured.
Police said the suspect retreated into the residence, and officers established a perimeter while attempting to resolve the situation. Authorities said less-lethal options were used before officers, with assistance from a K-9 unit, took the suspect into custody and provided medical aid.
The suspect was identified as 37-year-old Jaime Aguilar of Baytown. Aguilar was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The Harris County District Attorney's Office has accepted charges of Aggravated Assault Against a Peace Officer and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
The investigation remains ongoing.

Warm Winter Helps Produce
Strong Crawfish Harvest
Texas crawfish farmers and restaurants enjoyed a strong season this year thanks in part to a warmer-than-usual winter according to Houston Public Media.
According to Texas climatologists and industry experts, warmer winter temperatures have helped crawfish become more active earlier in the season, allowing fishermen to begin harvesting sooner and continue longer than in years past. Some Texas crawfish farms now start harvesting as early as December, compared to March just a few decades ago.
Texas, the nation's second-largest crawfish producer behind Louisiana, saw a plentiful harvest this year despite a late freeze that briefly slowed production. Farmers reported healthy catches and good-sized crawfish throughout much of the season.
Watch the video below to learn more about how changing weather patterns are affecting crawfish season across Texas.
