New Seafood Restaurant Planned
for Former Red Lobster Site in Baytown

A new seafood restaurant is coming to Baytown's former Red Lobster location along Interstate 10.

During its May 28th meeting, Baytown City Council approved an economic development agreement with Vida Mariscos VII Inc., a company owned by the Cabrera family, which also owns the Los Cucos Mexican Cafe chain. The family has operated restaurants in the Houston area for more than 30 years.

The restaurant specializes in seafood inspired by the coastal traditions of Mexico and is expected to include a sports bar.

According to the agreement, the company plans to invest at least $3.5 million into renovating and expanding the approximately 9,000-square-foot building. The project is also expected to create at least 70 full-time jobs.

Vida Mariscos currently operates locations in Cypress, Katy, Rosenberg, and Webster. The restaurant is known for seafood dishes such as ceviche, seafood tacos, and other coastal Mexican favorites.

Under the agreement, construction must begin by August 1, 2026, and the restaurant must be open for business no later than August 2027.

The former Red Lobster building has been vacant for about two years, and city officials said redeveloping the site is expected to bring new jobs and additional economic activity to the area.

Police: Suspect Shot After
Allegedly Firing at Officer

A suspect was wounded following an officer-involved shooting late Friday night on East Texas Avenue in Baytown.

According to authorities, Baytown police officers responded to a disturbance call in the Goose Creek area shortly before 11 p.m. During the encounter, police said the suspect fired a gun at an officer. An officer returned fire, striking the suspect. The suspect was transported to a hospital for treatment, while the officer was not injured.

Residents in the area reported hearing multiple gunshots during the incident. The shooting remains under investigation, and the Texas Rangers have been called in to assist, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.

No additional information about the suspect's condition or possible charges had been released. Officials have not identified the officer involved.

Crosby Fair & Rodeo Continues This Weekend with Music, Carnival, and Rodeo Action

The 80th Annual Crosby Fair & Rodeo got underway last weekend, bringing a full week of rodeo action, live music, carnival rides, fair food, and hometown traditions.

The festivities will continue this week with the Youth Fair June 1-3rd, the Live Auction on June 4th, and the rodeo performances June 5-6th.

Concert highlights include Bottomland on June 5th, and John Foster with The Droptines on June 6.

Whether you're there for the rodeo, the music, the carnival, or the food, organizers say fair week is shaping up to be another memorable celebration of Crosby's community spirit.
