Good morning, Neighbors👋

It’s Wednesday, May 27th, and apparently it’s officially National Flip Flop Day — which feels like the perfect excuse to lean all the way into summer mode. 🩴☀️ Whether you’re headed to work, the beach, the backyard, or just making a quick run to the store, today feels like one of those days where life slows down just enough to enjoy the sunshine a little more.

Around here, flip flops are practically part of the Texas Gulf Coast dress code this time of year anyway. 🩴

Here’s hoping your day includes warm weather, a little laughter, maybe something cold to drink, and at least a few moments to enjoy the start of another summer season.
Have a great Wednesday, neighbors!

Fireworks Stand Catches Fire in Highlands; Investigation Underway

Firefighters responded Monday afternoon [May 25th] to a fire at a fireworks stand near North Main Street and College Street in Highlands.

According to the Highlands Fire Department, crews were dispatched after reports of a fireworks stand on fire. When Engine 17 arrived on scene, firefighters found visible smoke and flames coming from the stand.

Crews quickly worked to extinguish the fire while also dealing with fireworks actively going off inside the structure.

Officials with the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office said the fire occurred in the 400 block of North Main Street. Preliminary information indicates the fire may have started accidentally while welders were working on the stand.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident, including whether the fireworks were being stored properly.

Lee College PAC Hosts Night of
Fleetwood Mac Favorites
and Big Crowd Energy

Fans of classic rock were treated to an unforgettable evening over the weekend as Fleetwood Mask took the stage at the beautiful Lee College Performing Arts Center in Baytown for a high-energy tribute to one of music’s most iconic bands.

The performance lasted nearly two hours, keeping the audience entertained from start to finish with a nonstop lineup of Fleetwood Mac favorites. Songs including “Sara,” “Go Your Own Way,” “Everywhere,” “You Make Loving Fun,” and many more had audience members singing along and responding enthusiastically throughout the night.

Fleetwood Mask is known for its attention to detail, going to great lengths to recreate the authentic Fleetwood Mac experience through period-accurate instruments, stage wear, and sound. That dedication showed during the performance, helping transport fans back to the height of Fleetwood Mac’s popularity.

The evening also served as another reminder of what a valuable asset the Lee College Performing Arts Center has become for the community. Shows like this are often found in much larger cities and venues, yet local residents were able to enjoy a professional live entertainment experience right here in Baytown in an intimate and comfortable setting.

Judging by the crowd’s reaction throughout the night, the performance was a hit with attendees. For many, it was more than just a concert — it was a fun evening filled with familiar songs, shared memories, and the excitement that only live music can bring.

Planned Baytown Solid-State Battery
Facility Linked to Major Stock Jump

J-Star Holding drew investor attention Tuesday after its stock surged following news tied to financing for a planned solid-state battery manufacturing facility in Baytown.

The company said a subsidiary received authorization from Taiwan’s central bank to begin a $60 million U.S. dollar loan facility through a designated domestic bank. The financing is intended to support a 100 megawatt-hour solid-state battery production line planned for Baytown, with total projected infrastructure investment estimated at about $122.5 million.

Company officials have said the planned Baytown facility would produce solid-state batteries for aerospace, drones, electric vehicles, and other advanced energy uses.
