New Restaurant Project, Walgreens Agreement Among Key Baytown Council Items
Several business and economic development items were discussed during last Thursday’s Baytown City Council meeting, including agreements tied to business retention, new development, and tourism growth.
Council approved a Chapter 380 agreement with Walgreens aimed at supporting continued operations at its North Alexander Drive location during the company’s nationwide restructuring efforts. Members also approved an agreement supporting a new Tia Juanita’s Fish Camp [restaurant] near Interstate 10 and Highway 146, a project expected to bring a $10 million investment and approximately 70 full-time jobs.
In addition, city officials shared a quarterly update on the Hyatt Regency Baytown-Houston Hotel and Convention Center, reporting the facility has already reached its full-year revenue goals midway through the fiscal year and is projected to exceed annual expectations.
Baytown Woman Says $9,500 Tax Refund
Was Deposited Into Stranger’s Account
A Baytown woman says her nearly $9,500 federal tax refund was reportedly deposited into an unknown person’s bank account after using a San Antonio-based tax preparer. She says weeks of phone calls and conflicting information from the company and the bank involved have left her still searching for answers.

Woman Found Dead With Gunshot
Wound at Crosby-Area Home
According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, deputies with the Harris County Sheriff's Office responded around 7:30 p.m. last evening [Monday] to a call for service at a residence in the 17800 block of Adlong Johnson near US-90 in the Crosby area.
When deputies arrived, they discovered an adult female, possibly in her 20s, deceased with an apparent gunshot wound. Crime Scene Investigators and Homicide detectives responded to the scene to begin the investigation.
Authorities later confirmed that an adult family member was detained at the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.
