Dayton VFD Responds to Elevator
Rescue at High School
Dayton firefighters responded yesterday [Tuesday] morning to Dayton High School after five students, including one student in a wheelchair, became trapped inside an elevator.
According to Dayton Volunteer Fire Department officials, crews arrived around 9:02 a.m. and found the elevator’s override system was not working. Firefighters used specialized tools to begin forcing the doors open while school staff provided bottled water to the students inside.
Crews were eventually able to open the elevator enough for four students to exit. Firefighters then continued working to fully open the doors so the student in the wheelchair could safely get out. Crews also assisted the student and wheelchair down the stairs.
No injuries were reported, and all units later returned to service.

Baytown Breaks Ground
on New Fire Station 2
City officials, firefighters, and community members recently gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new Fire Station 2, a project city leaders say represents a major investment in Baytown’s public safety future.
Fire Station 2 has served the community since 1954, supporting generations of firefighters and residents for more than 70 years. The new facility will provide updated safety features, improved working space, and room for modern firefighting equipment as the department continues serving a growing community.
The approximately $10.7 million project is funded through the City’s 2022 and 2025 General Fund Bond Proceeds. Construction is already underway and is expected to take about 13 months, with completion anticipated in the third quarter of 2027.
During the ceremony, Mayor Charles Johnson and other city leaders thanked Chief Kenneth Dobson and Baytown firefighters for their continued dedication and service to the community.

La Porte Residents Can Now Enjoy
Newly Opened Seabreeze Pier
The City of La Porte has officially opened the new Seabreeze Pier, giving residents a beautiful new place to fish, relax, and enjoy the waterfront after a long wait for the project’s completion.
The resident-exclusive pier is now open daily, with extended seasonal hours through September. Congratulations to the City of La Porte and its residents on the opening of this exciting new community addition.

The volunteer-based event will take place Saturday, May 16, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, May 17, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Baytown Community Center, 2407 Market St. Admission and parking are both free.
Visitors can enjoy comics, cosplay, toys, vintage treasures, records, original artwork, panel sessions, guest appearances, autograph opportunities, and vendors from across the region offering hard-to-find collectibles and unique items. Beyond the fun, proceeds from the event help support community programs through the Promise Center, including after-school tutoring, summer camps, language classes, and other outreach efforts.
Guests are encouraged to bring comfortable shoes, a tote bag for treasures and comics, and plenty of curiosity for a weekend filled with pop culture and community spirit.
