Lights Out Texas:
Why Turning Off Your Lights
Could Save Birds This Spring

While most of us are asleep, something incredible is happening overhead—millions of migratory birds are flying across Southeast Texas every single night on their journey north.

Texas plays a critical role in this migration, with roughly one out of every three birds passing through the state each spring. These birds are traveling thousands of miles across continents, relying on natural cues like moonlight and stars to guide them.

That’s where the Lights Out Texas program comes in. Bright city lights can confuse and disorient migrating birds, leading to dangerous collisions with buildings. By simply turning off or dimming nonessential outdoor lights from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. during peak migration season, residents and businesses can make a real difference.

It’s a small action—but one that helps protect millions of birds making an incredible journey right over our homes.

Watch this powerful video to see just how many birds are flying overhead—and why this matters more than you might think. ~You might be just as touched - and shocked as I was.

Local ‘Lights Out Texas’ Event:
Mont Belvieu World Migratory
Bird Day Celebration

Want to see these amazing travelers up close?

Mont Belvieu is hosting a World Migratory Bird Day celebration on Saturday, May 9th, at Joe Matthews Park from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m.

The event will feature guided bird walks led by local experts, hands-on activities for kids, educational booths, and tips on identifying birds and creating bird-friendly spaces at home. Whether you’re an experienced birder or just curious, it’s a great opportunity to connect with nature and learn what’s passing through our own backyards.

Baytown Find Becomes Dream
Project for Texas Car Collector

Car enthusiasts know a true gem when they see one—even if it’s buried under years of wear and tear.

That was the case when Texas collector Dennis Collins tracked down a rough 1960 Corvette Roadster right here in Baytown. The car, in need of serious restoration, was exactly the kind of project Collins is known for—bringing classic vehicles back from the brink.

What started as a worn-down find has now become a full-scale rescue, highlighting the craftsmanship and dedication that goes into restoring vintage cars. For collectors and gearheads alike, it’s a reminder that sometimes the most overlooked vehicles hold the most potential.

🎥 Watch the full video to see how it all began right here in Baytown—you might even recognize the neighborhood, the garage, and possibly the former owner who let this classic go.

Tacos, Music & Fun:
Don’t Miss $1 Taco
Night in Baytown

Get ready for a fun and flavorful evening at $1 Taco Night 🌮 at Town Square this Sunday! From 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., you can enjoy a variety of delicious tacos from local food trucks—all for just a dollar each.

The night will also feature live music from The Harris County Band and DJ Boris, plus cold drinks to keep things cool while you relax and enjoy the atmosphere. One of the best parts? You’ll get to vote for your favorite taco truck, making it a fun, interactive experience for everyone.

Whether you’re coming for the food, the music, or just a great night out, this is one event you won’t want to miss.
