Three communities right here in our newsletter coverage area are getting major attention as some of the hottest housing markets in Greater Houston.

According to a new report from the Houston Association of Realtors, Baytown, Crosby, and La Porte all ranked in the Top 10 for home sales activity to start 2026. Even more notable—Baytown came in at #5, Crosby at #6, and La Porte at #7 on the list.

The report highlights a clear trend across the region: buyers are increasingly drawn to communities that offer more home for the money. Many of these top-performing areas feature lower average home prices compared to the overall Houston market, along with a strong supply of new construction homes.

That combination is helping fuel demand on the east side of the metro, where Baytown, Crosby, and La Porte continue to attract families, first-time buyers, and anyone looking for more space and value.

Across the Greater Houston area, growth is being driven by affordability, availability, and new development—but it’s worth noting that three of the region’s hottest communities aren’t across town… they’re right here at home.

A burglary at Eagle Pointe Golf Course in Mont Belvieu led to a quick arrest and full recovery of stolen property—thanks to coordinated work between multiple law enforcement agencies.

According to the Mont Belvieu Police Department, officers responded around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday to reports of an overnight burglary at the golf course on Eagle Pointe Drive. Patrol officers began the initial investigation before detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigations Division stepped in.

Surveillance video from the facility provided strong leads, allowing detectives to quickly identify a suspect and vehicle. Authorities later located the vehicle at a Houston apartment complex, where surveillance was conducted throughout the afternoon.

With assistance from the Houston Police Department Central HotSpot TAC unit, the suspect was taken into custody without incident. Investigators also recovered all of the stolen golf equipment—valued at approximately $34,000—from the apartment.

Police identified the suspect as Robert Guillen Jr., 50, of Houston. He has been charged with burglary and felony theft and was booked into the Chambers County Jail.

Officials say the case highlights the importance of cooperation between agencies, noting that some crimes in the Mont Belvieu area involve suspects from outside the immediate community.

A Baytown man has been arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with the death of his 7-week-old son, according to court documents.

Authorities say the infant was found unresponsive at an apartment in July 2025 after a 911 call reported the baby was not breathing. The child was taken to a local hospital and later transferred to a Houston medical center, where he died about a week later.

Investigators allege the child suffered blunt force trauma to the head, and the death was ruled a homicide. Court records state the father gave conflicting accounts of what happened and later admitted becoming frustrated when the baby would not stop crying.

Officials say he is being held without bond as the case moves through the court system.
