Volunteers Needed for April Cleanup Along Goose Creek Trail🌳
Good morning, Neighbors 👋
Today, April 7th, brings one of those rare combinations that just feels like a win — it’s National Coffee Cake Day🍰 and National No Housework Day. 🧹
Sounds like a pretty solid plan: skip the chores, grab a slice (or two), and enjoy a slower kind of morning.
If you had a free pass today, would you actually take it… or would that to-do list still call your name? Either way, hope you find a little time to relax and enjoy something simple.

New Investment Strengthens
Free College Program Available
to La Porte ISD Students
Students in the La Porte Independent School District may soon have expanded access to free college, thanks to a new regional investment aimed at removing financial barriers.
The Greater Houston Community Foundation announced a $500,000 investment to support education and career pathways across the Houston area. Of that, $400,000 will go to San Jacinto College to strengthen its Promise @ San Jac Scholarship program.
The scholarship allows eligible students living in the college’s taxing district—including many in La Porte—to attend college with tuition and books fully covered.
The need for programs like this is significant. According to a recent youth disconnection report, about 13.3% of young adults in the Houston area—roughly 124,500 people—are neither in school nor working.
“This is a visionary investment…which will open doors for countless students who thought college was out of reach,” San Jacinto College Chancellor Brenda Hellyer said in a news release.
Since 2021, the program has supported more than 11,600 students and helped boost college enrollment across partner school districts, creating stronger pathways to long-term career opportunities.

Crosby Residents Raise Alarm
Over Trash-Filled Abandoned Site
A long-standing problem property in Crosby is now drawing increased attention after neighbors raised concerns about safety and health issues.
Residents say the abandoned site has become overgrown and filled with trash, attracting rodents and other unwanted activity. The property has reportedly been a concern for months, with multiple complaints filed and several follow-up inspections by the county.
Officials say the location has been identified as a public health nuisance and that the property owner was given opportunities to address the issues but failed to do so.
As a result, the owner is now facing misdemeanor charges related to not correcting the problem.
County officials say they are continuing to monitor the situation as nearby residents wait for conditions to improve.

Volunteers Needed for April
Cleanup Along Goose Creek Trail
Community members are invited to roll up their sleeves and help clean up the Goose Creek Trail throughout the month of April.
Volunteers can join efforts every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at Goose Creek Park to help pick up trash and improve the area along the trail. Supplies will be provided, making it easy for anyone to jump in and lend a hand.
Participants are encouraged to bring water in a refillable container, wear comfortable clothing, and come prepared with walking shoes.
The effort is part of a broader push to beautify the community through programs like Adopt-a-Spot, public art projects, and ongoing park maintenance. Volunteers may also assist with tasks such as weeding, spreading mulch, weatherizing wooden structures, and refreshing paint.
Help keep local parks clean, safe, and enjoyable for everyone.
🗓️ 4-6 pm every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in April
📍 Meet at Goose Creek Park (3 Price St.)

Last Quiz: Which musical instrument has the longest pipe in a standard orchestra?
Answer: B — Bassoon
The bassoon’s wooden pipe is about 8 feet long, but it is folded back on itself so the instrument remains manageable. Its deep, rich tone plays an important role in orchestral harmony and comic musical moments
