New Steel Plant Coming to Dayton Area, Boosting Local Industry
A major steel manufacturer from Mexico is expanding into the Houston area, selecting a site near Dayton for its first U.S. manufacturing operation.
Serviacero USA has purchased a rail-served property at Gulf Inland Logistics Park, a rapidly growing industrial development managed by Liberty Development Partners. The company, with more than 60 years of experience, produces a wide range of steel products used in construction, energy, and distribution.
Leaders say the move will allow Serviacero to better serve U.S. customers with faster delivery, local production, and expanded capabilities.
Gulf Inland Logistics Park is quickly becoming a major logistics hub. Phase 1 of the 200-acre development was completed in late 2025, with additional expansion already underway. The site offers strong transportation advantages, including access to both Union Pacific and BNSF rail lines, major highways, and multiple Texas ports.
With growing rail capacity and access to a workforce of more than 2 million people within a short drive, the development continues to attract large-scale industrial projects.
The addition of Serviacero highlights continued economic growth along the Dayton corridor and the greater Houston region.

La Porte Invites Residents to
Join Community Garden Program
La Porte residents can now sign up for the 2026 Community Gardens program, offering a fun and sustainable way to grow fresh produce and flowers while connecting with neighbors.
Garden plots are available at two locations: the Recreation & Fitness Center (1322 S. Broadway) and St. John’s Episcopal Church (815 S. Broadway).
Each 4’ x 8’ raised bed is available for $40 per season, with a limit of two plots per gardener.
The season runs from March 1 through October 30, and on-site water and hoses are provided. Whether you’re an experienced gardener or just getting started, this is a great opportunity to get involved.
Spots are limited, so residents are encouraged to reserve their plots soon.
For more information about the La Porte Community Gardens, registration details, and program guidelines, contact Marissa Alaniz at [email protected] or call

Last Quiz: Which North American animal can run the longest distance at high speed without overheating?
Answer: C — Pronghorn antelope
The pronghorn is the second-fastest land animal in the world, capable of reaching about 55 mph. Unlike cheetahs, however, pronghorns can maintain high speeds for much longer distances, thanks to oversized lungs, heart, and windpipe.
