A Night of Understanding,
Comfort, and Connection💙:
La Porte Police Create a
Safe Space for Sensory-Friendly Exploration

For many families, the sights and sounds of emergency situations—blaring sirens, flashing lights, large vehicles, and unfamiliar uniforms—can feel overwhelming. In those moments, what’s meant to help can sometimes create added stress.

That’s exactly why the La Porte Police Department is hosting a sensory-friendly Touch-A-Truck event in honor of Autism Awareness Month—creating a space where those experiences can be explored in a calm, welcoming way.

The event will take place Thursday, April 23, 2026, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the La Porte Police Department (3001 N. 23rd Street). Families will have the opportunity to see, touch, and explore a variety of city vehicles—including police units, fire trucks, EMS vehicles, public works equipment, and specialized response vehicleswithout the noise and urgency of a real emergency.

The event is open to the public, with families of individuals with autism and other developmental or sensory challenges especially encouraged to attend. The evening is designed to offer hands-on learning, meaningful conversations, and a supportive, inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome.

More importantly, it’s a chance to build comfort and familiarity. By experiencing these environments ahead of time, individuals with sensory sensitivities can feel more at ease if a real emergency ever occurs. At the same time, first responders gain valuable insight into the unique needs of the families they serve.

City departments will also be on hand to answer questions, share resources, and spend meaningful time connecting with the community.

At its heart, this evening is about more than trucks—it’s about trust. It’s about helping every neighbor feel safe, understood, and supported, while building relationships that truly matter.

72-Year-Old Liberty Driver
Pushes Mustang
Past 270 MPH

At 72 years old, Eddie Presnull is proving that slowing down isn’t the only option. The Liberty, Texas driver made an 11-hour trip to the Arkansas Mile with one goal in mind—push his Mustang to the limit and claim the title of fastest street-bodied car on the property.

The day didn’t start easy. A blistered tire forced an early stop, and a traction-control issue ruined another pass. With time running out and competition heating up—one rival had already posted a strong 266 mph run—the team faced a tough decision. They chose to go all in, disabling traction control entirely and letting the car run free.

On the final pass, everything came together. The Mustang blasted through the half-mile at 210.3 mph and kept pulling hard, reaching 246.1 mph before crossing the finish at an incredible 273.8 mph.

Built by Chad Epperson and his team, the purpose-built 2015 Shelby GT350 proved both powerful and stable at extreme speeds—something few street-bodied cars can achieve.

For Presnull and his crew, it wasn’t just about speed—it was about pushing limits, taking risks, and showing that determination doesn’t come with an age limit.
