Baytown Man Indicted in Houston
Area’s First Federal AI Child
Exploitation Case
For the first time in the Houston area, federal prosecutors have charged a Baytown man in a case involving artificial intelligence and child sexual abuse material, raising new concerns for families about how emerging technology can be misused.
A federal grand jury has indicted Kane James Kellum, 34, on four counts related to child sexual abuse material. Investigators allege he used artificial intelligence tools to create explicit videos by manipulating photos of children he knew, including a young child and a teenager. He is currently in federal custody and is scheduled to be arraigned.
According to court records, investigators say the videos were created by digitally altering images—placing a child’s face onto an adult body or removing clothing through AI-generated manipulation. Authorities say multiple apps were used, highlighting how accessible this technology has become.
Federal investigators warn that these crimes can be difficult to detect. While many U.S.-based social media companies are required to report suspected child sexual abuse material, some newer AI platforms operate overseas and may not be bound by the same reporting requirements, making enforcement more challenging.
Law enforcement officials stress that children of any age or background can be targeted. Photos shared online for innocent reasons—such as school events, sports, or family milestones—can be copied and altered using AI tools.
As technology continues to advance, investigators emphasize that awareness and prevention remain key steps in protecting children and families.
What Parents Can Do Today:
Review privacy settings on all social media accounts
Limit who can view, save, or share photos of your children
Avoid posting publicly accessible images when possible
Consider covering a child’s face, with an emoji or something similar, when posting online before sharing photos online
Talk with older children and teens about online safety and image sharing

Bicyclist Dies After Being Hit on FM 2100
A bicyclist was killed Friday night in a chain-reaction crash near Crosby, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say the crash happened around 9:40 p.m. on FM 2100 near the Crosby Freeway. Investigators reported that a Hyundai SUV failed to yield the right of way to a Ford pickup truck at an intersection along the US 90 service road. The SUV struck the truck, causing it to lose control and veer off the roadway.
Authorities say the out-of-control truck then struck a bicyclist who was riding along the shoulder. The bicyclist was airlifted to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the Ford pickup remained at the scene and showed no signs of intoxication, according to investigators. The driver of the Hyundai SUV and a passenger in the pickup truck were both transported to a hospital and are expected to be okay.
No charges have been filed at this time. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

“Makin’ Cake” Takes the Stage
at Lee College PAC
“Makin’ Cake”, a storytelling performance by Dasha Kelly Hamilton, will take the stage at the Lee College Performing Arts Center on Saturday, February 21, at 7:30 p.m.
Blending personal storytelling, digital media, and live performance, Makin’ Cake uses the metaphor of a layered cake to explore race, class, and economic inequality in America. Part history lesson and part social reflection, the show examines how opportunity and wealth are distributed, while inviting audiences into a broader conversation about equity and human connection.
Originally commissioned by the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, Makin’ Cake continues to spark dialogue in communities through thoughtful, engaging storytelling.

Last Quiz: How cold can temperatures drop on the Moon in permanently shadowed craters near its poles?
Answer: B) Antarctica
The coldest temperature ever officially recorded on Earth was −128.6°F (−89.2°C) at Vostok Station, Antarctica, on July 21, 1983. Temperatures there can be so cold that exposed skin can freeze in minutes, and even machinery struggles to operate.
