ExxonMobil Breaks Ground
on Major Baytown Refinery
Reconfiguration Project

Exxon Mobil Corporation officially broke ground Tuesday on a major renovation project at its Baytown Refinery, marking the start of the Baytown Refinery Reconfiguration Project.

First announced last year, the project represents a significant investment in the local facility and the Baytown community. The reconfiguration will shift part of the refinery’s gasoline production toward higher-value products such as diesel and lubricant base stocks, allowing the site to better align with evolving market demand.

Company officials said the project builds on more than a century of operations and investment in Baytown. ExxonMobil has operated in the area for over 100 years and says the latest upgrades are designed to position the refinery for long-term use well into the future.

“This project is the next step in retooling our facility for the next century,” the company said in a statement, emphasizing its continued commitment to adapting operations to meet changing energy and product needs.

Construction activity associated with the project is expected to continue as work moves forward on modernizing the facility and expanding its production capabilities.

School Safety Takes Center Stage
at Goose Creek CISD Board Meeting

Parents and students filled the first school board meeting of the year for Goose Creek CISD to demand stronger safety measures following the fatal stabbing of 16-year-old Andrew Meismer at Sterling High School last month.

District officials declined to discuss details of the ongoing investigation but acknowledged the community’s grief and concerns. Several students and parents spoke emotionally about returning to campus after the incident, saying they felt unsafe and unheard.

Andrew’s parents were in attendance as others questioned how a student with prior disciplinary issues was allowed on campus. Prosecutors say 18-year-old Aundre Matthews is charged with murder after allegedly stabbing Meismer during an argument. Matthews remains in the Harris County Jail without bond.

New Superintendent Dr. Joe Rodriguez highlighted the district’s student safety advisory committee, which was formed after the incident. The committee includes plans for stronger behavior monitoring, improvements to alternative education programs, and increased transparency.

Some students expressed cautious optimism, saying they were encouraged by the attention now being given to campus safety. Parents and students said they hope the changes will help prevent future tragedies.

Walmart Drone Delivery
Expands to Crosby

Drone delivery is expanding to parts of Greater Houston, including Crosby, giving Crosby-area shoppers a new way to receive everyday items.

Walmart and Wing announced this week that drone delivery is now available near select Walmart Supercenter locations, including Walmart Supercenter #522 at 14215 FM 2100 Road in Crosby. The rollout makes Greater Houston one of the first major regions to see the service expanded at this scale.

The service allows customers to order household essentials, groceries, and over-the-counter medications for delivery by drone, with some orders arriving in as little as 30 minutes. Available items include baby wipes, fresh produce, ground beef, toothpaste, eggs, and other everyday needs.

Wing’s drones fly at about 150 feet, can reach speeds of up to 60 mph, and deliver packages weighing up to 2.5 pounds. Orders are lowered safely to the ground using a tether system in a designated drop area.

Walmart and Wing say the Crosby launch is part of a broader plan to expand drone delivery to more stores nationwide, following successful rollouts in other major metro areas.
