2 Fatal House Fires

Investigation Continues in Two Fatal House Fires
Press Release: Baytown BFD

The Baytown Fire Department is investigating two fatal house fires that occurred over a three-day period this week.

Firefighters responded to a house fire on Saturday, January 10th, in the Lakewood neighborhood. Upon arrival, crews searched the home and located an elderly man inside. He received immediate medical care and was transported by medical helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition. He later died from his injuries.

A second fatal fire took place on Tuesday, January 13th, in the Stewart Heights neighborhood. Firefighters responded to a fire involving a manufactured home, where an adult woman was located inside. She was rescued through a window and received medical attention before being transported to Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital. She was later transferred to the burn center at UTMB Galveston, where she died from her injuries.

No other injuries were reported. The Baytown Fire Marshal’s Office is continuing to investigate the cause of both fires.

Update: Buyer Identified for
Baytown’s East Bay Trade Center

The buyer of Baytown’s recently completed East Bay Trade Center has been identified as Gulf Coast Crating Inc., a fast-growing Houston-based company specializing in export packing and custom crating services.

Gulf Coast Crating purchased the 557,000-square-foot industrial development and moved into the entire property at closing in 2025. The company provides a range of services including custom crating, hazardous materials handling, warehousing, and delivery, supporting supply chain and export operations across the region.

The acquisition marks a significant expansion for Gulf Coast Crating, which was recently recognized as a 2025 Inc. 5000 honoree, reflecting its continued growth. Prior to this purchase, the company had already expanded its footprint in Baytown, occupying more than 567,000 square feet at the Portside Logistics Center, including a recent lease that brought that facility to full occupancy.

Industry observers note that the move underscores both Baytown’s growing appeal for industrial users and the continued expansion of Houston-area businesses within the regional logistics market.
