Bond Denied in Sterling High
School Stabbing Case

An 18-year-old student accused of fatally stabbing a classmate during a science class at Ross S. Sterling High School was denied bond this week following court testimony detailing the incident.

Court records state that Aundre Matthews is charged with murder in the death of Andrew Meismer, who was stabbed during a confrontation inside a classroom. Investigators testified that the dispute began over a missing $21 vape pen Matthews believed Meismer had taken.

During a bond hearing, an investigator described finding large amounts of blood throughout the classroom, including on the floor, tables, and walls. Witnesses told investigators that Matthews was restrained by teachers after the stabbing and that Meismer had suffered a puncture wound to the neck. Meismer later died from his injuries.

Prosecutors requested that Matthews be held without bond under a new Texas law allowing bond denial in certain non-capital cases. A Harris County judge agreed, citing the severity of the incident and the number of students nearby at the time.

Matthews remains in custody at the Harris County Jail. His defense attorney has argued that Matthews acted in self-defense. The case remains under investigation.
