Protecting the Past:
La Porte Library to
Digitize Historic Newspapers

The La Porte Public Library has been awarded a $20,000 grant from the Ladd and Katherine Hancher Library Foundation to help preserve local history. The funding will be used to digitize decades of historic La Porte newspapers.

Once digitized, these newspapers will be protected from deterioration and made searchable online, giving residents, students, researchers, and former community members easy access from anywhere in the world. The project will help preserve important stories, milestones, and moments that shaped the community.

This effort was made possible by the Friends of the La Porte Public Library, library staff, and the City’s Grant Administrator, Tracey Farris. Library leaders say the project ensures La Porte’s history is both protected and more accessible for future generations.
