Baytown Man Among Two
Charged in Double Homicide
Near Silsbee Nightclub
A Baytown man is among two suspects charged with murder after a double shooting outside a Silsbee-area nightclub. According to the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, Kenny Ray Johnson, 21, of Baytown, and Deontray Deshunn Carey Jr., 22, of Beaumont, each face two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Henry Carey Jr., 36, and Khalil Ahmadrian Gooch, 29, both from Kountze.
Officials say the men had been leaving a nightclub on Fresenius Road when Johnson’s vehicle was involved in two minor crashes. According to probable cause documents, Johnson and Carey then confronted the other driver and attempted to demand money. A fight followed, and investigators say Johnson admitted firing three shots while Carey fired additional rounds.
Both victims were found in the roadway and pronounced dead at the scene. Johnson and Carey were later detained during a traffic stop and arrested after further investigation.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office at 409-246-5255 or Crime Stoppers at 409-833-TIPS.

Stay Safe and Warm:
5 Heater Tips for
Cooler Weather
The Mont Belvieu Fire Department wants to remind everyone:
With the weather getting a lot cooler, everyone is turning on their heaters for the first time this season.
Here are 5 easy tips to keep you both safe and warm:
🔥 Keep flammable materials at least 3 feet away from furnaces, fireplaces, and space heaters.
🍳 Never use an oven or stovetop to heat your home. These appliances were only intended to cook food.
🔧 Have a qualified professional inspect and clean your heating system. Now is the perfect time to make sure you're all set for the chilly weather ahead. And, be sure trash, paint, and other flammable materials are nowhere near your heating system.
🔌 Don't use an extension cord with a space heater, as they can overheat and cause a fire. Also, don't ever leave space heaters unattended or use them overnight while you are sleeping.
🚨 Test your smoke alarms and Carbon Monoxide (CO) detectors once a month. Probably a good idea to go ahead and replace those batteries too.

Texas Man Saves Two Lives
After Rebuilding His Own
A powerful story out of Ellis County, Texas, is reminding people that a second chance can lead to extraordinary acts of good. According to a report from People, Jacob Bell — who spent nearly 20 years in prison before rebuilding his life — has now saved two people in separate emergencies just weeks apart.
The first rescue happened at Lake Waxahachie, where Bell jumped into action after seeing a young girl struggling in the water. He reached her quickly and pulled her to safety, preventing what could have been a tragic drowning.
Just six weeks later, Bell was driving when he saw an overturned vehicle on fire. Inside was a 72-year-old man who was unresponsive. Bell pulled the man from the wreckage, performed CPR, and stayed with him until help arrived. Authorities later confirmed that his efforts likely saved the man’s life.
Bell told reporters he doesn’t see himself as a hero — only someone determined to do the right thing when he sees someone in danger.
