Superintendent’s Vision Pushes
Goose Creek CISD Toward
a Stronger Future

We’d like to congratulate Dr. Randal O'Brien for being spotlighted in a recent feature highlighting the direction and progress of Goose Creek CISD. Under his leadership, the district is focusing on stronger communication, expanded career pathways, and deeper community involvement—three priorities shaping a more connected and future-ready school system.

To modernize communication, the district recently adopted ParentSquare, giving families and community members a direct way to ask questions, get timely answers, and stay informed without juggling multiple outdated tools.

Goose Creek CISD has also launched “GC 2035,” a long-range planning initiative built with input from about 100 community volunteers, including parents, business owners, and local residents. Their feedback is helping shape future programs and facilities to support the district’s continued growth.

Career preparation remains a major emphasis. The district now offers 10 career academies across its five high schools, each with industry-aligned certifications designed to prepare students for college, technical training, or immediate workforce opportunities—especially within the Gulf Coast’s expanding industrial sectors.

The district is also investing in its staff through supportive initiatives such as district-run childcare, which helps younger educators and employees stay rooted in the community while balancing work and family responsibilities.

Stay Safe and Warm:
5 Heater Tips for
Cooler Weather

The Mont Belvieu Fire Department wants to remind everyone:

With the weather getting a lot cooler, everyone is turning on their heaters for the first time this season.
Here are 5 easy tips to keep you both safe and warm:

🔥 Keep flammable materials at least 3 feet away from furnaces, fireplaces, and space heaters.
🍳 Never use an oven or stovetop to heat your home. These appliances were only intended to cook food.
🔧 Have a qualified professional inspect and clean your heating system. Now is the perfect time to make sure you're all set for the chilly weather ahead. And, be sure trash, paint, and other flammable materials are nowhere near your heating system.
🔌 Don't use an extension cord with a space heater, as they can overheat and cause a fire. Also, don't ever leave space heaters unattended or use them overnight while you are sleeping.
🚨 Test your smoke alarms and Carbon Monoxide (CO) detectors once a month. Probably a good idea to go ahead and replace those batteries too.

National Mutt Day:
Celebrating the Dogs
Who Need Us Most

National Mutt Day shines a light on the many mixed-breed dogs waiting in shelters for a second chance. These pups come in all shapes and personalities, often with the best traits of several breeds wrapped into one loyal companion.

Adopting a mutt doesn’t just change a dog’s life—it helps make room for the next animal in need. If you’ve been thinking about adding a pet to your family, today is the perfect reminder to check out the local shelters. You may find a playful buddy, a gentle soul, or a goofy sidekick who instantly feels like home.

Take a look at the examples below—your next best friend might be waiting for you.

Adoption Spotlight: Local Shelter Dogs Looking for Homes

Those two sweet pups from Baytown Animal Services [pictured above] are great examples of the wonderful mixed-breed dogs available across all three local shelters listed below. If you’re thinking about adding a furry friend to your home, these boys are the perfect reminder of just how much love is waiting for a second chance.

Meet “Meat Loaf” (A073074) & “Pot Roast” (A073075)

These two 11-month-old, neutered boys have been waiting nearly four months for a family, and they’re more than ready for their fresh start. Full of energy and personality, they’re the kind of pups who can turn an ordinary afternoon into an adventure—then curl up for cuddles once they’ve worn themselves out.

Whether you’re interested in adopting one or both, Meat Loaf and Pot Roast are the type of dogs who bring joy, laughter, and loyalty to the families who bring them home.

All adoption fees are currently waived, and no appointment is needed to stop by and meet the animals in person. You can also view all available pets anytime at 24petconnect.com/bayt.

Question Mark What GIF

Tuesday’s Quiz: Genetic testing of mixed-breed dogs has shown that many “mystery mutts” often contain small percentages of unexpected breeds. Which factor most contributes to these surprising results?
Answer: B
Mixed-breed dogs often carry traces of breeds from many generations back. Because owners usually only see the most recent ancestry, deeper DNA analysis frequently reveals breeds that aren’t physically obvious.
