From Baytown to the Toolbox:
Local Inventor Develops
Smart New Ratchet Design

Ever thought about inventing something that makes life easier? One Baytown resident did just that.

A local inventor has developed a new ratchet-and-socket combination tool designed to make tightening and loosening bolts faster and simpler. The creation — called the RANGEL Shallow Socket Ratchetcombines two common tools into one convenient design, eliminating the need to dig through a toolbox for the right socket or adapter.

The patent-pending tool was designed with durability and ease of use in mind, making it a helpful addition for electricians, plumbers, contractors, mechanics, and weekend do-it-yourselfers alike. Company officials said the design is now available for licensing or sale to manufacturers.

It’s a good reminder that big ideas don’t just happen in big cities or high-tech labs. Sometimes, they start right here at a neighborhood workbench.

Do you know the inventor behind this Baytown creation? We’d love to connect, share their story, and help shine a little more light on local innovation. Send us a note at

Covestro Baytown Reaches
Major Environmental Benchmark

A major environmental milestone has been reached at the Covestro plant in Baytown, where a long-running project continues to reduce harmful emissions on a massive scale.

According to company officials, Covestro’s partnership with ClimeCo and LSB Industries has now prevented the release of more than 10 million metric tons of greenhouse gases since 2010. The system captures and destroys nitrous oxide (N₂O) — a “super pollutant” that’s 273 times more potent than carbon dioxide in trapping heat in the atmosphere.

Covestro Baytown Site Manager Victor Ortega said the project not only supports global sustainability goals but also improves local air quality. The reductions are independently verified through the Climate Action Reserve, ensuring accuracy and transparency.

In total, the Baytown project has neutralized over 36,000 metric tons of nitrous oxide, roughly the same environmental benefit as taking 2.3 million gasoline-powered cars off the road for a year. Company leaders say they plan to build on the success of this 15-year effort by exploring new ways to further reduce emissions.
