Talke USA Breaks Ground on
Recycling Support Center
in Mont Belvieu♻️
Talke USA marked a major milestone on Friday, Aug. 1st, breaking ground on its new Recycling Support Center in Mont Belvieu — a project that promises to boost both the local economy and sustainability efforts in the heart of the U.S. petrochemical industry.
The facility will receive post-consumer plastic materials and prepare them for advanced recycling. Once processed into bales in Mont Belvieu, the materials will be sent to Cyclyx’s new circularity center in Houston, where they’ll be converted into ISCC-PLUS-certified recycling feedstock.
The new site on Langston Drive represents the next phase of Talke USA’s growth since establishing its U.S. headquarters in Mont Belvieu in 2022. Chambers County and the City of Mont Belvieu played a key role in supporting and funding the project, which aligns with community goals for sustainable industry growth.
“We’re proud to break ground on a facility that reflects our long-term vision for sustainable growth,” said Richard Heath, Talke USA CEO and president. “This groundbreaking marks an important milestone for our team, our customers, and the Mont Belvieu community.”
Alexander Boehm, Talke USA chief operating officer, also credited the collaboration that made the project possible, noting the contributions of Tommy Hammond and the Chambers County team, Cyclyx, and city officials.
Once complete, the Recycling Support Center will:
Support circular supply chains by processing post-consumer plastics for reuse
Advance mechanical and advanced recycling efforts in the region
Provide new infrastructure and jobs in Mont Belvieu
Strengthen the area’s role in sustainable petrochemical logistics
The groundbreaking ceremony brought together local leaders, industry partners, and Talke USA employees to celebrate the start of construction. As the project moves forward, Talke says it will continue sharing updates with the community.

ExxonMobil’s Baytown Hydrogen Project
Faces Possible Delay or Cancellation
A major clean energy project planned for Baytown might be in trouble — and it all comes down to changing federal rules and tax credits.
ExxonMobil had announced plans to build the world’s largest blue hydrogen and ammonia facility at its Baytown refinery. The company said it would reduce carbon emissions by capturing and storing nearly all of the carbon dioxide created during production.
The plant would produce 1 billion cubic feet of hydrogen per day and 1 million tons of ammonia each year. The hydrogen would be used to make plastics and chemicals, replacing dirtier fuels currently used at the refinery.
But now, ExxonMobil says it may have to cancel or delay the project. Why? Because of new rules from the U.S. government that shorten the timeline for when companies must start construction in order to qualify for clean energy tax credits.
Originally, companies had until 2033 to begin building. Now, the deadline is the end of 2027. If companies miss that window, they lose a big financial incentive known as the 45V tax credit, which would help offset the high cost of clean hydrogen production.
“If we can’t see a path to a market-driven business, we won’t move forward with the project,” said ExxonMobil CEO Darren Woods during a recent earnings call.
He also said that although the Baytown facility could technically meet the 2027 deadline, the company is concerned about whether there will be enough buyers for the hydrogen and ammonia to make the project financially worthwhile.
In the meantime, ExxonMobil is still working on deals with buyers in the U.S., Europe, and Japan — but those agreements haven’t been finalized.
Some experts say the company could still qualify for another tax credit (called 45Q) for carbon capture, but that incentive pays less.
If the project moves forward, it would be one of the largest of its kind in the world and bring major investment and potential jobs to the Baytown area. But for now, the future of the project is uncertain — and local leaders, workers, and residents will be watching closely.

Tuesday’s Quiz: What fascinating ability does a parrotfish have?
Answer: A. It can change its gender
Many species of parrotfish are protogynous hermaphrodites — meaning they start life as females and can later change into males. This helps balance population dynamics in coral reef environments. Bonus fact: they also poop sand, thanks to all the coral they munch on!
