👨‍🍳Cooking Up Careers:
Goose Creek Teens Intern with
Aramark Nutrition Team

Two Goose Creek CISD high school students spent their summer break gaining valuable hands-on experience in the fast-paced world of food service through a six-week culinary internship with Aramark Student Nutrition.

Working up to 30 hours a week, the interns rotated through different departments—from working with chefs and dietitians to shadowing account managers—giving them a behind-the-scenes look at how school food service really works. They also helped support the district’s summer meal program, distributing meals to students and families.

In the final weeks of the program, the interns put their skills to the test by planning and executing a full luncheon for district leadership. From creating a custom menu and ordering supplies to coordinating with the catering and marketing teams, the students led the project from start to finish.

The highlight of the event? A surprise scratch-made retirement cake presented to Superintendent Dr. Randal O’Brien, who praised the interns’ efforts and the long-standing partnership between Goose Creek CISD and Aramark.

“This internship didn’t just teach cooking—it gave these students a taste of real-world responsibility, teamwork, and career prep,” said Chef Raina Carranza, who mentored the students throughout the program.

City Reports Big Year for Trash Collection
—and Recycling Progress

The City of Baytown reports a busy year in 2024, collecting more than 32,000 tons of trash and serving over 20,000 customers across the city.

Of that total, 13% was successfully recycled, thanks to the combined efforts of Baytown residents and the hardworking crews from Best Trash, the city’s contracted waste and recycling provider.

City officials say the numbers reflect the continued commitment to keeping Baytown clean and sustainable. Every household that recycles and every crew member who handles the heavy lifting plays a part in making the city greener.

🧠 Trivia is back… the old-school way (for now)!
We know—we said a new and improved trivia was coming. Then we ran into some “technical difficulties” (aka: the software got stage fright). 😅

While we sort that out, we’re bringing back the classic version you know and love. Thanks for sticking with us!

Thursday’s Answer
B. Epiphyte

Thursday’s Quiz: Despite its name, Spanish moss isn’t a moss at all. What type of plant is it actually?
