The Hyatt and the Hurricane:
Baytown’s Resilience
One Year Later

Like some of our community, the Hyatt Regency Baytown-Houston and Convention Center continues to feel the ripple effects of Hurricane Beryl, which made landfall last July. The storm brought significant wind and rain, and while much of the visible damage across Baytown has been addressed, the long-term impacts are still unfolding.

As part of a thorough post-storm evaluation of the Hyatt Regency hotel, crews discovered construction issues unrelated to the hurricane. These issues are now being addressed collaboratively by the City of Baytown and Hyatt leadership. While additional renovations are necessary, Hyatt will work to minimize guest impact. The scope of work, project timeline, and associated costs are under review and will be finalized as planning moves forward.

But there’s another side to this story: momentum

In just two years, the Hyatt has evolved into a cornerstone of Baytown’s event scene, hosting everything from the Air Hockey World Championships to the State of the County and State of the City, holiday celebrations, and high-profile conferences. Bookings continue to grow, with several large events to be announced soon.

Even more encouraging, Baytown’s hotel market is outperforming the region. According to commercial real estate firm CoStar, the Baytown market leads all 12 Houston-area submarkets in RevPAR (Revenue Per Available Room) growth, up an impressive 29% over the past year.

That success reflects not only strong hotel management, but growing interest in Baytown as a destination for business, events, and more.

Repairs are part of the story, but they don’t define it. The Hyatt’s continued growth, resilience, and economic impact are at the heart of Baytown’s upward momentum.

One thing is clear: Baytown is open for business and leading the way.

Monday’s Answer
C) Australian Trumpet (Syrinx aruanus)

Monday’s Quiz: What is considered the largest snail species in the world by shell length?
Answer: C) Australian Trumpet (Syrinx aruanus)

The Australian Trumpet is the world’s largest snail by shell size. It can grow up to 30 inches (about 76 cm) in length and weigh over 30 pounds. Despite its name, it’s a marine snail, unlike the Giant African Land Snail, which is often mistaken for the largest due to its bulk on land.
