Highlands Funeral Home
Fires Employee Over
Inappropriate Viral Photos
A funeral home in Highlands is working to rebuild community trust after two disturbing incidents involving inappropriate content shared on social media from inside its facility.
Alexander’s Mortuary confirmed that a now-former 21-year-old employee took and posted staged photos with caskets, including one where he is seen holding a gun. The employee admitted to taking the photos in an attempt to go viral and monetize his social media following. He was immediately fired following an emergency staff meeting.
“He made a mistake trying to get attention online,” said a staff member at the mortuary. “He’s young, but actions have consequences.” The employee was not charged with a crime, but the funeral home says he violated company policy and his non-disclosure agreement. Phones were collected and searched during an internal investigation.
In a separate and unrelated incident, Alexander’s Mortuary is also pursuing legal action against a woman who was invited by a deceased's family to help prepare the body before a service. The woman, who is not an employee of the mortuary, was trusted to cut the deceased’s hair per the family’s request. However, she reportedly uncovered another body awaiting cremation and filmed a video that later appeared online, showing inappropriate and disrespectful content.
“We were blindsided. We trusted her based on her past work,” said funeral home owner Melvin Alexander. “This is deeply hurtful to us and goes against everything we stand for.”
Both incidents have drawn widespread attention, prompting Alexander’s Mortuary to speak out and reaffirm its commitment to professionalism, privacy, and dignity for the families it serves.

Nab Burglary Suspects ✈️ 🐾
While this incident didn’t happen in Baytown, it offers a compelling look at the kind of rapid, coordinated response the Harris County Sheriff’s Office is known for—especially important since HCSO provides patrols in parts of the Baytown area that lie outside city limits.
Just after 2 a.m. yesterday [Thur., July 17th], District 4 deputies responded to a call about two people breaking into vehicles at an apartment complex in the 5700 block of Greenhouse Rd. When deputies arrived, both suspects took off running. One was quickly caught and found to have a loaded gun on him.
The second suspect managed to jump a fence. ABLE 4 arrived overhead and spotted the suspect hiding in a backyard. ABLE 4 observed the suspect burying something along a fence line.
With help from ABLE 4 and K9, deputies closed in and safely took the suspect into custody. The buried item? A stolen handgun.
Both suspects are now facing multiple charges, including evading arrest and unlawful carrying of firearms. One of them is also facing a drug-related charge.
Huge shoutout to the team effort between patrol deputies, K9, and ABLE 4.
Editor’s note: 👀 Zoom in to see what deputies saw!
Enlarge the photo and you’ll spot exactly what officers — and ABLE 4 overhead — saw during the search. It’s pretty amazing how sharp eyes (and sharp tech) helped track this suspect hiding in plain sight. 👮♂️🚁🐾

Baytown Tip-A-Cop Event
to Support Special Olympics
– Dine Out for a Great Cause
Baytown residents will soon have a unique opportunity to enjoy a good meal and make a meaningful impact — all in the same night. At the upcoming Tip-A-Cop event, local law enforcement officers will swap their badges for aprons as they serve guests at Texas Roadhouse to raise funds for Special Olympics Texas.
Officers will volunteer their time to wait tables, refill drinks, and greet diners — all in the name of supporting athletes with intellectual disabilities. Instead of their usual patrol duties, they’ll be working for tips, which will go directly to fund year-round sports training, competitions, and health programs offered through Special Olympics.
Beyond the great cause, Tip-A-Cop offers something even more powerful: connection. The event brings together law enforcement and the community in a fun, relaxed setting — showing a different side of the badge and building positive relationships over dinner rolls and sweet tea.
Whether you're a longtime supporter of Special Olympics or just looking for a family-friendly evening out, this is a great chance to show up, show support, and be part of something bigger. Every tip given to the officers helps make sports more inclusive and accessible for incredible athletes across Texas.
