Baytown Tip-A-Cop Event
to Support Special Olympics
– Dine Out for a Great Cause
Baytown residents will soon have a unique opportunity to enjoy a good meal and make a meaningful impact — all in the same night. At the upcoming Tip-A-Cop event, local law enforcement officers will swap their badges for aprons as they serve guests at Texas Roadhouse to raise funds for Special Olympics Texas.
Officers will volunteer their time to wait tables, refill drinks, and greet diners — all in the name of supporting athletes with intellectual disabilities. Instead of their usual patrol duties, they’ll be working for tips, which will go directly to fund year-round sports training, competitions, and health programs offered through Special Olympics.
Beyond the great cause, Tip-A-Cop offers something even more powerful: connection. The event brings together law enforcement and the community in a fun, relaxed setting — showing a different side of the badge and building positive relationships over dinner rolls and sweet tea.
Whether you're a longtime supporter of Special Olympics or just looking for a family-friendly evening out, this is a great chance to show up, show support, and be part of something bigger. Every tip given to the officers helps make sports more inclusive and accessible for incredible athletes across Texas.

Every Drop Counts: Simple Ways
Baytown Residents Can
Conserve Water This Summer
Summer in Baytown means sunshine, fun, and unfortunately, increased water usage. As the temperatures rise, so does the demand on our water system. Whether you're caring for your lawn, filling up the kiddie pool, or just trying to stay cool, it’s easy to overlook how much water your household is using—and potentially wasting.
But don’t worry—small changes can make a big difference. With a few easy steps, you can conserve thousands of gallons each month while keeping your home and yard running smoothly.
Check for Leaks and Open Lines
Leaks are one of the biggest culprits of wasted water—and often go unnoticed. A faucet dripping just one drop per second can waste up to 24,700 gallons per month, while a corroded toilet flush valve can silently lose over 73,000 gallons per month.
Here’s how to catch a leak before it catches your wallet:
Check all faucets, pipes, and toilets monthly.
Replace washers in dripping faucets.
Fix or replace sticky toilet handles.
Install faucet aerators to reduce flow without losing pressure.
Toilet Trouble? Run a Simple Test
Toilets are a major source of water waste—but it’s easy to spot a leak:
Remove the tank lid after the toilet fills.
Add a few drops of food coloring to the tank (don’t flush!).
Wait 20–25 minutes.
If colored water appears in the bowl, you have a leak.
Most fixes are easy and inexpensive—replacing flappers, adjusting valves, or installing a low-flow toilet can go a long way.
Use Your Water Meter as a Leak Detector
Your water meter can help you find hidden leaks:
Turn off all faucets and water-using appliances.
Record the meter reading.
Wait 15–20 minutes.
Recheck the meter. If it’s moved, you likely have a hidden open line.
Upgrade Fixtures and Habits
Install water-saving shower heads and toilets. A 1.6-gallon low-flow toilet uses less than half the water of older models.
Use short dishwasher cycles and wash only full loads of laundry.
Take shorter showers and avoid leaving the water running when brushing teeth or washing dishes.
Outdoor Water Smarts
Your lawn and landscaping can be beautiful and efficient:
Water deeply but only when necessary.
Raise your mower blade to reduce evaporation and encourage deeper root growth.
Plant drought-resistant trees and plants.
Recycle pool water for other outdoor uses.
Remember: Small Actions Add Up
Try doing just one water-saving task a day. From fixing a drip to waiting an extra day to water the lawn, your efforts matter. By taking these simple steps, Baytown residents can help protect our city’s water supply and your pocketbook. Let’s all work together this summer—because every drop counts.
