West Nile Case Confirmed in Baytown🦟

The City of Baytown has been notified of a confirmed human case of West Nile Virus, reported by Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services (HCPHES). While the individual has not been identified, City officials are taking immediate action to prevent any additional cases from occurring.

A positive case allows public health teams to focus mosquito control efforts in targeted areas. In response, the City’s Health Department is increasing mitigation efforts and reminding residents to remain vigilant in protecting themselves and their families.

How to Protect Yourself and Others:

  • Use insect repellent containing DEET.

  • Eliminate standing water in your yard.

  • Change water in birdbaths and pet bowls regularly.

  • Wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts when outdoors.

  • Limit outdoor activity during dawn and dusk, when mosquitoes are most active.

While weather conditions can affect mosquito spraying, the City’s vector control crews have continued to operate on their regular schedule. Residents are encouraged to report mosquito breeding areas by calling 281-420-5384 or visit www.baytown.org/766.

Child Critically Injured in Baytown Crash;
One Adult Hospitalized

A child is in critical condition and a man remains hospitalized following a three-vehicle crash in Baytown on Sunday afternoon, according to Baytown police.

The accident occurred around 1:30 p.m. near the feeder road at Decker Drive, Highway 146, and Lanier. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, and the child was airlifted by Life Flight for treatment.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, and details about what caused the crash have not yet been released.

🚔BPD & BFD🚒
Save the Day Once Again

On Saturday, May 24, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Baytown officers responded to a possible drowning at a home in the 5300 block of East Road. When they arrived, two men—an off-duty paramedic and a fire marshal—were performing CPR on 10-year-old Gavin, who had been found unresponsive in the pool by his older brother.

Officers quickly stepped in—carrying Gavin to EMS so he could be flown out by Life Flight for emergency care. An officer also transported Gavin’s mother to the hospital so she could be there for her son and provide vital medical information during the critical moments that followed.

Thanks to the fast actions of family members, bystanders, first responders, and medical staff—Gavin survived. Yesterday, Gavin stopped by the Public Safety building to personally thank the Baytown Police Department and Baytown Fire Department personnel for helping save his life. He hand-delivered a heartfelt letter and shared his appreciation with those who responded that day. Gavin is doing well, recovering at home, and spending the summer with his family.

BPD & FBD don’t take moments like these for granted—they remind them why they serve. Stay safe, buddy!
