ExxonMobil’s 'White House'
Set for Demolition Saturday

After 54 years, a familiar piece of Baytown’s skyline is coming down. The iconic ExxonMobil building—known locally as “The White House”—is scheduled to be imploded this Saturday, June 21st.

ExxonMobil has announced that there will be no public viewing areas available, but a video of the demolition will be shared online following the event.

We’ll include the video link in an upcoming issue of the newsletter, so be sure to keep reading for the latest updates.

Below is the official statement from ExxonMobil regarding the demolition, along with a map of temporary road closures.

Golden Corral Is Coming
Back to Baytown!🍽

Big news for local food lovers: Golden Corral is bringing its legendary buffet back to Baytown!

The new location is part of the chain’s nationwide push to expand into high-demand markets. According to CEO Lance Trenary, Golden Corral is advertising nationally nearly every week, building strong brand awareness—even in areas that don’t yet have a restaurant.

“We know there’s pent-up demand,” Trenary said. “People either drive to the nearest Golden Corral or they miss out. We want to change that.”

To accelerate growth, Golden Corral is rolling out a variety of restaurant sizes and development options—making it easier for franchisees to invest and bring the brand to more communities. The Baytown location will be one of the company’s newer, mid-sized buffet restaurants, expected to be between 6,500 and 7,000 square feet with seating for around 250 guests.

Even with a smaller footprint, the new Baytown restaurant will still feature Golden Corral’s full 160-item buffet. The layout has been reimagined for efficiency and includes expanded off-premise options: a dedicated To Go station, weigh-and-pay service, and separate entrance for third-party delivery pickups.

With this more flexible model, Golden Corral has also started converting existing buildings, including former retail spaces. “We’re doing everything from ground-up construction to repurposing old stores,” said Trenary.

Construction timelines can vary, but a standard Golden Corral takes about six to eight months to build. We’ll be keeping an eye on progress—and looking forward to the first plates coming off that buffet line right here in Baytown.

Editor’s Note: While we don’t have an exact address just yet, it’s our understanding that the new Golden Corral will be located along the I-10 frontage road—somewhere near Mambo’s Seafood/Salt Grass Steakhouse/Cheddar’s.

Stay tuned… and don’t miss an issue of the newsletter for the latest updates!

Crime Prevention in Action

On June 4, 2025, at around 6:00 p.m., officers were called to the Northwood area following an armed robbery involving two victims. The suspect, who was armed, took one victim’s vehicle and drove off.

Thanks to our Flock camera system—technology funded through Crime Control and Prevention (CCPD) funds—officers quickly located the stolen vehicle. As they approached, the suspect exited the vehicle and ran while still holding a gun. After a brief foot pursuit, he was safely taken into custody.

The 20-year-old suspect was arrested and faces multiple felony charges. The stolen vehicle and other property were recovered and returned.

Technology like Flock helps law enforcement quickly identify vehicles linked to investigations, allowing officers to respond more efficiently and focus resources where they’re needed most.

Thank you to our officers for keeping Baytown safe!
