Tank Fire Contained in Baytown; Shelter-in-Place Lifted After Hazmat Response
Baytown emergency crews responded to a tank farm fire Thursday morning at Trek Resources, Inc., located in the 2400 block of Causeway Road, off Evergreen Road. The fire was reported around 7:40 a.m., prompting a swift and coordinated response from the Baytown Fire Department and several mutual aid partners.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered an active blaze involving fuel storage tanks. Due to the lack of nearby fire hydrants, additional support was requested from surrounding communities. Water tankers from Cove, Beach City, Highlands, and Crosby Volunteer Fire Departments were dispatched to assist. Specialized foam trucks from Harris County Hazmat and ExxonMobil also responded to help suppress the flames.
Crews concentrated their efforts on containing the fire and cooling adjacent tanks to prevent the fire from spreading. Meanwhile, the Baytown Fire Department’s HazMat team conducted continuous air monitoring. As a precaution, a shelter-in-place order was issued for residents in the Evergreen Fairways and Trinity Oaks subdivisions. Residents were advised to remain indoors and turn off HVAC systems.
By 11:30 a.m., the fire had been successfully suppressed, and air quality readings confirmed there were no hazardous levels of contaminants in the area. The shelter-in-place order was then lifted.
No injuries were reported, and the Baytown Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
🐝Beekeeping 101 Coming
to Mont Belvieu🐝
Ever wondered what it takes to become a backyard beekeeper — or just want to know where your local honey comes from? A special Beekeeping 101 class is buzzing into Mont Belvieu, and it’s the perfect way to dip your toes into the sweet world of honey production.
Beekeeping 101 will be presented by Mike Simmons from Thrive Apiaries
📍 Location: Chambers Co. Library - Mont Belvieu
📅 Date/Time: Wed. June 25th 10-11am
🐝Fun Fact: A single honeybee only produces about 1/12th of a teaspoon of honey in its lifetime — so that spoonful in your tea represents a whole lot of teamwork.

Texas Approves $135 Million
Cybersecurity Hub in San Antonio
San Antonio is set to become the epicenter of state-led cybersecurity efforts with the recent approval of a $135 million project to establish the Texas Cyber Command. Once completed, this will be the largest state-based cybersecurity agency in the country, with full operations expected by 2027.
The initiative positions San Antonio as a central figure in protecting government digital infrastructure across Texas. Backed by significant institutional and federal cyber presence—including the Sixteenth Air Force, the FBI, the NSA, the Secret Service, the U.S. Army, and the Department of Homeland Security—the city already boasts a strong foundation in cybersecurity. The Southwest Texas Fusion Center also contributes to the area's defense capabilities.
The University of Texas at San Antonio will be a key partner in the effort, likely playing a role in research, education, and workforce development as the center scales up.
The Texas Cyber Command will house a cyber threat intelligence center designed to detect vulnerabilities in government systems and offer training to reduce the risk of cyber incidents. It will also lead statewide coordination during cyberattacks and serve as a collaborative platform among local, state, and federal agencies to set new standards in digital security.
