Baytown Family Grieves Loss of
15-Year-Old Daughter to
Sudden Heart Attack
A Baytown family is grappling with an unimaginable loss after their 15-year-old daughter, Kaitlynn Saunders, died suddenly from a heart attack just days before her 16th birthday. What should have been a time of celebration has instead become a period of profound grief, as the Saunders family now prepares to lay her to rest.
Kaitlynn collapsed at home on May 22. Her mother and brother were present when it happened and immediately called emergency services. Paramedics rushed her to the hospital, but doctors confirmed the teen had suffered a heart attack. Despite having no known health conditions and no warning signs, her heart simply gave out.
Medical professionals told the family that while such incidents are extremely rare in teenagers, they can occur without explanation. The shock has left her parents and younger brother struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss.
Kaitlynn, remembered for her kind heart and loving spirit, was deeply cherished by her family. Photos now line the family’s dining table, capturing moments from birthdays, family gatherings, and the day her father officially adopted her — a milestone they treasured.
As the Saunders family navigates their grief, they’re holding tightly to memories of Kaitlynn’s laughter, compassion, and the joy she brought to those around her. Her absence leaves a void that words can’t fill, but her presence in their lives will never be forgotten.

A Sanctuary of Support:
Pregnancy Resource Center East
Tucked in the heart of our community, Pregnancy Resource Center East (PRCE) has spent more than three decades quietly transforming lives—one young woman, one family, one child at a time. Founded on compassion and care, PRCE offers a haven for young women who are newly pregnant or think they may be, meeting them not with judgment, but with understanding.
The center provides free pregnancy testing and ultrasound services, giving women the knowledge they need to make informed decisions. But PRCE’s mission doesn’t end there. Through a robust curriculum of parenting, prenatal, and newborn/infant classes, clients receive guidance every step of the way—from the first positive test through their baby’s first birthday.
PRCE also nurtures the practical side of parenting with its Baby Boutique, a welcoming space stocked with essentials to help new parents provide for their growing families. And recognizing that strong families include strong fathers, PRCE offers “The Intentional Man,” a class tailored for men involved in the pregnancy, promoting responsible and engaged fatherhood.
Everything PRCE offers is completely free to clients, a testament to the community’s generosity and the tireless dedication of its volunteers. As Gail Duhon, Executive Director remembers, “I was drawn to PRCE back in the early '90s, impressed by their non-judgmental approach and their commitment to helping women make well-informed decisions.”
Community involvement remains central to PRCE’s identity. In recent months, they’ve participated in local events like the Baytown Sun's Women's Expo, the Mont Belvieu Methodist Fair, and the Lee College Health Fair. Their calendar is also filled with meaningful fundraisers that sustain their mission—like the annual golf tournament, "Tee Up Fore Life," set for Saturday, September 13 at Stonebridge at Newport, and the Annual Fundraising Banquet & Silent Auction on October 18 at the Hyatt Regency in Baytown.
In their larger, expanded location, PRCE continues to grow its programs and outreach. Through it all, their core mission remains unchanged: to lend a listening ear, offer unwavering support, and walk alongside women and families as they navigate one of life’s most challenging—and beautiful—journeys.
Pregnancy Resource Center East is now located at 610 S. Main St., Highlands, TX 77562
