ExxonMobil Delays Planned
Blue Hydrogen Facility in Baytown

ExxonMobil has paused its planned blue hydrogen and ammonia project at the company’s Baytown manufacturing complex. According to several industry reports the company made the decision because customer demand for blue hydrogen is weaker than expected, and buyers are not willing to pay the higher costs associated with the fuel.

The project was first announced in 2022. It was designed to produce blue hydrogen using natural gas, with carbon dioxide captured and stored. Reports note that ExxonMobil and its partners invested hundreds of millions of dollars in early work on the project, and full development was expected to cost several billion dollars.

According to the reporting, the company said it is pausing the project because it does not currently have enough committed customers. Some articles also state that ExxonMobil pointed to economic conditions and cost concerns as factors in the slowdown.

The pause affects the project planned for the Baytown site, but the company has said the location remains prepared for future development if demand improves. Several reports also mention that ExxonMobil continues to support low-carbon projects in other areas and may revisit this project later depending on market conditions.

Study Begins on New
Small-Reactor Power
Project in Liberty

A new energy study is underway in Liberty, Texas. NANO Nuclear Energy Inc. has signed an agreement with BaRupOn LLC to examine whether its small, factory-built nuclear reactors could be used at a large development site known as the LAMP Innovation Hub. This information comes from several public news releases and industry reports.

The study will look at whether many of NANO Nuclear’s small units—called modular micro-reactors—can be placed together to make a large amount of power, up to 1 gigawatt (GW). According to the reports, NANO Nuclear will review the site’s power needs, the land conditions, access for equipment, and how the reactors could be connected if the project moves forward. BaRupOn will pay the company to complete this study.

The planned LAMP site covers 701 acres and is being developed for high-tech uses. Reports state that the location is intended for things like data centers, artificial-intelligence (AI) operations, manufacturing, robotics, and advanced materials work. These types of businesses can require a large and steady supply of electricity, which is why the study is focused on whether the small reactors can meet those needs.

The reactors being considered are called modular micro-reactors because they are built in pieces, or “modules,” inside factories instead of being built entirely on-site. Each small unit can make power on its own. Several units can also be combined—much like stacking blocks—to make a larger power system. This design allows multiple reactors to work together while staying easier to move and install.

At this stage, the project is only a feasibility study, meaning the companies are checking whether the idea is possible. No decision has been made about building the reactors. The study will help determine whether the technology and the location are a good match for the LAMP hub’s planned energy demands.

Additional Police Report:
Sun. Nov. 23rd:
Residential Burglary

As part of our ongoing effort to share theft-related reports during this time of year, Baytown police also documented a residential burglary in the 2300 block of Belvedere Drive. The incident occurred on Nov. 23rd.

According to the report, multiple firearms and several pieces of jewelry and precious metals were stolen. The listed property losses total approximately $14,200.

We’ll continue providing these updates as a reminder to stay alert and take extra precautions during the busy holiday season.

Credit Card Fraud and
Vehicle Burglaries
Highlight Seasonal Risks

As the holiday season approaches, it’s always important to stay alert to opportunities for theft — but even more so this time of year, when criminals often take advantage of busy schedules and distracted shoppers.

Two Baytown police reports from Thursday highlight how quickly losses can occur. In one case, a credit card fraud incident was reported from the 3400 block of Garth Road, with a total of $172,055 in stolen funds.

In a separate report, two vehicles were burglarized in the 4500 block of East Freeway. Items reported stolen included radios, TVs, a VCR, portable electronic communication devices, recording media, and computer hardware and software, with losses totaling around $11,000.

You are encouraged to remain vigilant, safeguard personal information, lock vehicles, and avoid leaving valuables in plain sight — especially as we move into the busiest weeks of the season.

We share these reports because we care about our community, and the last thing we want is to be reporting that something similar has happened to you!

High-Tech Teamwork:
Drones & K-9s
Enhance Search Safety

Right after reminding ourselves to stay alert during the holiday season, it’s worth noting how law enforcement continues strengthening its own tools for keeping the community safe. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office recently highlighted a new blend of technology and training that’s improving the way deputies handle searches in the field.

Their team is now pairing drones with K-9 units — a coordinated approach that gives deputies eyes in the sky while trained dogs work on the ground. The aerial footage helps guide K-9s through open fields, hallways, and hard-to-see areas, allowing deputies to clear spaces faster while reducing risk.

It’s a practical example of how modern tools can support safety, efficiency, and better outcomes during critical operations.

La Porte Fire Department
Deploys New Radio System

The La Porte Fire Department has rolled out its new P25-compliant radio system, giving firefighters clearer, more reliable communication during emergencies. The upgrade also helps crews work better with nearby agencies that use the same system.

Funding for the project came from the La Porte Fire Control, Prevention, and Emergency Medical Services District, along with support from a UASI grant. Now all fire trucks have the new mobile radios installed, and firefighters have received updated handheld units.

The department thanked everyone involved in helping make the upgrade possible, noting that stronger communication means a safer community for all.
