Baytown Man Appears on
Wheel of Fortune
If you tuned in to Wheel of Fortune this week, you may have spotted a familiar face. Henry Stevenson III of Baytown was one of the contestants competing on the Tues., Sept. 9th episode.
Stevenson, described on the show as a family man with a love for golf, walked away with $9,950 in winnings after solving a puzzle that also landed him a special âYear of Funâ wedge worth an extra $5,000.
While another contestant grabbed headlines for a big car win, it was exciting to see Baytown represented on national TV. Stevenson held his own in a fast-paced game filled with tough puzzles, showing that our hometown has plenty of smarts and spirit.

Good News for Oyster Lovers:
Texas Protects Reefs
with Major Buyback
If you love oysters and fresh Gulf Coast seafood, thereâs good news: Texas just took its biggest step yet to protect wild oyster populations.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) recently purchased 112 commercial oyster licenses from harvesters in a record-setting buyback round. Thatâs a 21% reduction in the number of active oyster boats in the state â the most significant progress since the program began in 2018.
For years, Texas oyster reefs have been under pressure from overharvesting, hurricanes, floods, and droughts. With more licensed boats on the water than the reefs can sustain, oyster beds have struggled to recover. Fewer oysters donât just mean fewer on your plate â healthy reefs also filter water, protect shorelines, and provide habitat for fish and marine life.
Why This Year Was Different
Previous buyback rounds had little success â only three licenses retired in the last several years combined. This time, TPWD changed its approach. Instead of letting harvesters name their price, the state offered a flat $30,000 per license.
The move was made possible through a public-private partnership with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation and donors like the Coastal Conservation Association and several Texas philanthropic foundations. Together, they raised the funds needed to make the buyback financially attractive.
Why It Matters Locally
Think about it: a family oyster operation that sells its license frees up space on the water, giving reefs a chance to bounce back. That means healthier bays, stronger marine ecosystems, and a more sustainable supply of oysters for future generations.
âThis is a significant victory for conservation and an important move toward alleviating pressure on our public reefs,â said Robby Byers of CCA Texas.
TPWDâs original goal was to buy back 150 licenses, and though they fell short, the 112 secured mark a turning point. Conservationists are calling it the most consequential oyster buyback in Texas history.
đ Bottom line: If you enjoy oysters on the half shell at a local seafood spot, this program is part of what helps keep that tradition alive. By reducing harvesting pressure today, Texas is giving wild reefs a chance to rebuild â and ensuring that Gulf Coast seafood remains part of our tables tomorrow.
