Editors Note: Thanks to everyone who joined in on our Fajita Poll yesterday! The race between Luna’s and El Toro was close, but the top spot actually went to ‘Other.’ Some of the favorites you shared included Iguana Joe’s and Gringo’s, while many of you kept your go-to fajita spot a secret.

Harris County Teen Missing Since July;
Family Fears She May Be in Danger

The search continues for 14-year-old Debra “Dawn” Moore, who has been missing from Harris County since July 20th.

According to her family, Debra was last seen that afternoon near Highlands Park, where she often went to hang out. Witnesses reported seeing her alone around 2 p.m., listening to music. Her aunt and legal guardian, Jessica Wall, says the teen disappeared while she was at work.

Jessica shared concerns that Debra may have been talking online with older people. “I think she got in contact with the wrong person,” she told a local TV station. “But if you know she’s 14, there are consequences for you, and you don’t want those consequences.”

Debra is described as 5’3” tall, 160 pounds, with a mole on her left cheek. She is an eighth grader and goes by the nickname “Dawn.” Family members have posted fliers and searched extensively, including in Houston’s Fifth Ward, after finding suspicious phone numbers linked to that area.

Her family says they remain hopeful. “There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think about her. There’s not a day that I don’t wish and pray she would just come home,” Jessica said.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Harris County Missing Persons Unit at 713-274-9270 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).

DPS Rolls Out New
Driver License Design

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has rolled out a new design on Texas driver license (DL) and identification (ID) cards. Beginning yesterday, Aug. 18th, all newly issued Texas DL and IDs will feature a new look, which has increased security features. The previously issued cards, with the current design, are still valid until their expiration date.

“The way driver licenses are made can make a big difference in terms of public safety,” said DPS Driver License Division Chief Sheri Gipson. “This new card design will make it even more difficult for criminals to produce counterfeit cards, and it enhances ways we can protect Texans’ identities from being stolen.”

Texas’ new DL and ID cards are made of tamper-resistant polycarbonate material that is difficult to reproduce and compliant with American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) standards. Instead of a gold star, these new cards now feature a black, laser-engraved star in the upper right corner to indicate REAL ID compliance. The new cards also reorganize personal information in a clear and easy-to-read format for identification and verification purposes.

Question Mark What GIF

Monday’s Quiz: Where did fajitas first originate?
Answer:  C) Texas
Fajitas trace back to Texas ranchlands in the 1930s, when Mexican ranch workers were given less-desirable cuts of beef (like skirt steak). They marinated and grilled them over open flames, creating the sizzling dish we know today.
The first restaurant credited with popularizing fajitas in the United States is The Original Ninfa's on Navigation in Houston. While the dish itself may have existed in some form on the Texas-Mexico border before, Ninfa's is widely recognized for introducing fajitas to a wider audience and making them a staple of Tex-Mex cuisine.
