Baytown’s Cedar Port Expands
with High-Tech Recycling Operation
Houston American Energy Corp. has officially closed an $8.5 million deal to acquire a 25-acre property within Cedar Port Industrial Park, marking a major step forward in bringing a new plastics recycling facility to Baytown. The site will serve as the launchpad for the company’s first plant converting plastic waste into pyrolysis oil—a key low-carbon fuel and chemical feedstock.
The project places Houston American Energy (NYSE American: HUSA) at the heart of one of the nation’s most strategically located industrial hubs. Cedar Port offers direct access to the Houston Ship Channel, the Port of Houston, and major rail networks, making it an ideal location for both sourcing plastic waste and distributing finished products. The park’s infrastructure—designed for heavy industry—will support the operation’s logistics needs and long-term growth.
In addition to the infrastructure advantages, the company pointed to the Gulf Coast’s strong engineering and industrial talent pool as a major reason for choosing Baytown. The planned facility represents a broader shift in HUSA’s focus toward renewable and circular technologies, following its recent acquisition of Abundia Global Impact Group, a company specializing in converting plastic waste into sustainable fuels.
TGS Cedar Port Partners, the current owner and operator of the industrial park, welcomed the development, noting that HUSA’s mission aligns with the park’s vision of supporting next-generation industries committed to sustainability and innovation.

🚨STOLEN VEHICLE RECOVERED 🚨
On Friday, July 11, 2025, at approximately 10:30 a.m., officers were alerted by Flock safety technology about a stolen Dodge Ram 1500 traveling westbound near Massey Tompkins and Ferry Road.
While the vehicle wasn’t immediately found in that area, officers continued searching nearby and located it parked on Bayou Drive. A female was seen walking away from the truck, and a male passenger was still inside. Both were detained without incident.
Although charges were not accepted at the time, thanks to the alert from Flock and the quick response from officers, the stolen vehicle was safely recovered.
Technology like Flock helps BPD quickly identify vehicles linked to investigations, allowing officers to respond more efficiently and focus resources where they’re needed most. Flock technology, supported through Crime Control and Prevention District (CCPD) funding, continues to be a helpful tool in keeping Baytown safe.

When the Garbage Truck Knows
You Better Than Your Neighbor
(Baytown isn’t under robot surveillance… yet.)
The city of Dayton, Ohio, is turning to artificial intelligence in an innovative push to improve its residents’ recycling habits. New AI-powered garbage trucks, equipped with smart cameras, are now scanning trash and recycling bins curbside to identify when people are tossing items into the wrong containers.
This pilot program, rolled out in partnership with the Cincinnati-based company Compology, uses technology embedded in garbage trucks to automatically analyze the contents of recycling bins as they’re emptied. If contamination—such as food waste, plastic bags, or non-recyclable items—is detected, the system records the bin's location and notifies city officials. Residents then receive targeted feedback by mail, encouraging proper recycling practices in the future.
The initiative aims to reduce the city’s recycling contamination rate, which currently sits at 26%—significantly above the 10% threshold required to avoid penalties from Dayton’s recycling processor, Rumpke Waste & Recycling. If contamination levels remain high, the city risks financial consequences, as loads with too many non-recyclables can be rejected or charged extra fees.
For now, the program is educational rather than punitive. No fines are being issued, and the primary goal is to raise awareness and encourage behavior change. Officials hope the AI technology will help make recycling more efficient, reduce landfill waste, and save the city money in the long run.
The system is being tested on 25 of Dayton’s recycling trucks and includes a dashboard that allows city staff to view contamination levels across neighborhoods. Residents flagged for repeated contamination may eventually receive more direct outreach or even in-person visits from city representatives.
Dayton is among a growing number of U.S. cities experimenting with smart waste solutions. By blending traditional sanitation services with modern technology, the city is betting that a little AI oversight can make a big difference in how communities handle their waste.
