Covestroās Baytown Facility Among Global Leaders in Sustainability Certification
Covestroās Baytown facility continues to shine as a key contributor to the companyās global sustainability efforts, as its South Charleston, West Virginia site becomes the latest to earn ISCC PLUS certificationāa standard for sustainable and traceable use of renewable and recycled materials.
Baytown was one of the first U.S. Covestro sites to achieve the certification, supporting the production of CQ (Circular Intelligence) materials made with at least 25% recycled or bio-based content. These materials are widely used in sectors such as automotive, furniture, and consumer goods.
As Covestro expands its certified operations, Baytown remains a flagship facility, demonstrating how innovation and responsible manufacturing can coexist. The site plays a vital role in Covestroās "produce in the region for the region" strategy and stands among a network of certified global sites, including those in Germany, China, and Belgium.

Texas Renaissance Festival Founder Found Dead Amid Legal Battle Over Festival
George Coulam, the 87-year-old founder of the Texas Renaissance Festival, was found dead Wednesday morning at his home in Todd Mission, Texas, just outside the festival grounds.
The Grimes County Sheriffās Office confirmed that a housekeeper discovered Coulamās body around 9 a.m. The Todd Mission Police Department, Grimes County Sheriffās Office, and Texas Rangers responded to the scene and are continuing to investigate. Authorities have not released a cause of death but stated there is no danger to the public.
Known as āKing Georgeā to festivalgoers, Coulam founded the Texas Renaissance Festival in 1974 and helped transform it into one of the largest Renaissance-themed events in the country. The festival, held each fall over six weekends, draws hundreds of thousands of visitors annually.
Coulam also served as mayor of Todd Mission from its incorporation in 1982 until earlier this month, stepping down on May 8ājust weeks before his death.
His passing comes on the heels of a significant legal ruling involving the future of the Texas Renaissance Festival. A Grimes County judge recently ordered the sale of the festival and surrounding properties following a civil lawsuit. Plaintiffs claimed Coulam had reneged on a $60 million agreement, despite accepting a down payment and closing costs. The judge awarded them $22 million in damages and $1 million in legal fees.
Despite the legal turmoil, festival officials say operations for the 2025 season will continue as scheduled.
