Baytown and La Porte Walmarts
to Get Major Remodels
Walmart is rolling out a major store remodeling initiative across Texas in 2025, and Baytown and La Porte are on the list. The company plans to refresh 67 stores across the state, including 14 in the Houston area, as part of a nationwide project to modernize more than 650 locations.
For Baytown [8700 N Highway 146] and La Porte [ 9025 Spencer Hwy] shoppers, that means noticeable changes are coming to their local stores—including updated layouts, improved pickup and delivery areas, and upgraded pharmacy spaces.
📦 What’s Coming to Baytown & La Porte Walmarts in 2025:
✔️ New signage and easier-to-navigate store layouts
✔️ Expanded departments with more product variety
✔️ Improved pickup and delivery zones for online orders
✔️ Upgraded pharmacies with wider aisles and private consultation areas
✔️ Part of Walmart’s statewide modernization effort across 67 Texas stores
✔️ Local impact: Investing in jobs, access, and convenience right here in Baytown and La Porte
These updates are designed not just to refresh the look of each store, but to enhance convenience for customers who are increasingly shopping both in-store and online.
🏗️ A Billion-Dollar Bet on Texas
This initiative is part of Walmart’s ongoing investment in Texas, where the company has already spent more than $2.6 billion upgrading stores over the past five years.
💼 Beyond Aisles and Registers: Supporting Communities
Walmart is also highlighting its broader contributions to Texas communities:
Operating 596 retail units and 25 supply chain facilities statewide
Donating over 91 million pounds of food to Texas food banks in 2025
Promoting more than 11,500 employees and helping thousands more move from part-time to full-time roles
Issuing bonuses to over 93,900 frontline workers earlier this year
The remodels reflect Walmart’s strategy to stay competitive by blending physical retail with digital convenience—an approach the company calls “omnichannel.” Whether customers are shopping in person or placing orders online, the upgraded stores are designed to handle both more efficiently and comfortably.

New Weather Monitoring System to Help CenterPoint Respond Faster to Storms
As the 2025 hurricane season approaches, CenterPoint Energy is taking a major step to improve how it tracks and responds to severe weather in the Houston area—including Baytown and surrounding communities. The company has begun installing 100 weather monitoring stations across its 12-county electric service territory as part of its Greater Houston Resiliency Initiative (GHRI).
This new network is a Texas first—the only weather station system owned by a utility company in the state—and it’s being built to give real-time data on conditions like wind speed, rainfall, humidity, and temperature. The goal? To help CenterPoint better prepare for storms, respond faster during emergencies, and minimize outages.
🌪️ Why It Matters to the Greater Baytown Area and Other Local Communities
During Hurricane Beryl and last year’s derecho windstorm, millions of residents were left without power, and many criticized the lack of preparation and slow response. CenterPoint’s new weather system is a direct response to those concerns.
The data from these stations—collected every 2 to 5 minutes—will be used not just by CenterPoint, but also by local emergency officials, state agencies, and even the National Weather Service to improve storm forecasting and emergency alerts.
Each station is built to withstand extreme conditions and operates using its own solar power, making it reliable even during major storms.
💡 Part of a Broader Resiliency Push
This weather network is one part of a larger plan CenterPoint is rolling out to make its electric grid more storm-ready. Other key upgrades being completed before June include:
25,000 stronger utility poles designed to withstand extreme winds
4,850 automated "self-healing" devices that can reroute power and reduce outage times
Clearing 4,000 miles of vegetation to prevent storm damage to power lines
Undergrounding 400 miles of power lines for improved long-term resiliency
Altogether, these actions are expected to reduce power outage times by more than 125 million minutes per year across the region.

Hazardous Waste Round-Up:
Let’s Clean It Up, Baytown! ♻️🧪
Mark your calendars, Baytown! This Saturday, May 17, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, it's time to declutter responsibly at the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day, happening at 1200 Lee Drive and Riggs Street. Gather up those lingering cans of paint, old tires (limit of 4 per vehicle), gasoline🛢️ , pesticides, motor oil, and other hazardous items like antifreeze, household cleaners, pool chemicals 🧪, car batteries, and even that ancient lawn fertilizer.
